For our last show for 2024, Pat's going to play some sweet Pacific sounds while Val will do a bit of a lucky dip of some of the new stuff she's bought this year... and maybe a couple of old faves. Who knows where it'll go.

It's October and that means one thing.... it's Paekākāriki Pride season!

On this month's Vinyl&Proud radio we talk about the connection between q***r culture and disco music. Disco was the soundtrack of the protest movement of minority communities in USA - black, Hispanic, Latino, q***r and trans - and the clubs were a safe place for them to express themselves and be free. Check out the short video for a quick history lesson.

We've raided our record collection for some of the best disco tunes and will spin them for you. A whole hour of disco - groooovy!

We're dedicating the entire show to the pooches of Paekākāriki. Whether yours is the baddest, roughest or a butter-wouldn't-melt sweet angel, a barker, a digger, a yapper, an all day napper, a ball-chasing legend, a wanderer, a fur-shedder, a face-licker, or a shoe-nicker - there's a song for your doggo. Whether you've lost your best four-legged fur friend or you've just picked up your new pup - we've got a tune for them.

Send us your song request under this post with a photo of your pooch, and a sentence or two about them and we'll give them a shout-out. All on vinyl (records, not lino or couches!).

The show is being recorded live this Friday 6th September at 6pm on 88.2FM. It'll be repeated throughout the month every Tuesday at 9am and Friday at 6pm.

This month's Vinyl&Proud show is dedicated to Martin Phillipps, frontman of one of this country's most iconic Dunedin/Flying Nun bands - The Chills.

Martin passed away this month after a decades long health struggle.

His legacy lives on in his music and we pay tribute to his incredible talent and beautiful soul.

It's a bit of a June jumble on tonight's Vinyl&Proud radio show!

June marks the celebration of Matariki in Aotearoa and the theme this year is 'Matariki Heri Kai - The Feast of Matariki'. It's a time to gather together with loved ones and enjoy the bounty that Matariki brings and to remember those that have passed.

June is also Pride month in the northern hemisphere and there are celebrations in this part of the world too.

And it's winter - a time to hunker down, hibernate, cosy up and snuggle.

So there'll be music about the stars, food, pride, hope and love. All on vinyl of course.

We're gonna sock it to you on this month's radio show!

Remember back in February when we had the Village Vinyl Fair at St Peter's Hall and all these vendors came from far and wide with heaps of records and merch and even some CDs (what?!) and there were crowds of happy crate diggers and some people bought their first vinyl record and others just added more to their heaving collection, and there were all these djs and a different dj would play a set every half hour or so. And everyone was so happy 😊 then later, there was this amazing dance and there were more incredible djs and people danced like everyone was watching and they didn't care and it was a fine, sunny day and warm night and the village ROCKED?

Yea, so we bought a few sweet platters (records) which we're going to play.
