Capitol K is the alias of Kristian Craig Robinson, a boundary-pushing musician and producer known for his eclectic and exploratory approach to sound. Since the late 1990s, Capitol K has continually reinvented his music, moving fluidly across various sonic landscapes while integrating field recordings and unconventional sound design. A recurring theme throughout his work is psycho-geographic audio wandering, where environments, both real and imagined, influence his compositions.
Capitol K’s music is deeply influenced by the environments in which he lives and works. Since 2014, his focus has shifted toward Mediterranean themes, exploring mythical and sonic narratives that draw from the region’s landscapes and folklore. This was first heard on his 2018 album Goatherder and the 2020 Birdtrapper EP, works that combined field recordings with rich textures and electronic experimentation.
His ninth album, Local Popular Song Vol.1 (2024), is a continuation of this exploration, where he reinterprets 1970s Maltese 7” records through a haze of analog effects, 8-bit filters, and vintage keyboards. The result is a warm, lo-fi homage to island life—a sonic invitation to slow down and dream in the heat of a Mediterranean afternoon.
In live performance, Capitol K brings an immersive and deeply atmospheric energy, creating experiences that connect his intricate recorded soundscapes to the physical presence of the audience. His upcoming appearances mark a return to the stage after a four-year hiatus. So catch him live at for a sundown gig at 18.30pm 🌅 🎹 🎤
