Holiday Food blog while we are closed
We have, very true to ourselves, already been eating our way through.
After a morning walk, (with eating along the way, our favourite was the Vietnamese spring rolls ) charne took us to a farm to table grocery , we ended up choosing some Italian san Marzano tomato's , fresh basil and cheese. We went back home to make some pasta for everyone one. (I didn't get a photo of the tomatoes as I was so excited to cook with them, however I will get another photo, as I will be going back there)
Roasted down tomato pasta sauce, with basil and parmesan cheese
Due to a 3 month old , cooking has been on a back list for my brother and his family. So seeing their faces , taking a bite of a freshly made, fragrant , home cooked pasta was priceless.
After digesting the pasta and realising it was starting to get dark, we hoped in the car and went to a Christmas market, where of course, we found more food.
We opted for duck bitterballen, a Netherlands must, served with a honey mustard mayo. Bitterballen best described as a gravy ball. However it is a delicate, rich gravy, made from scratch, crumbed and fried to golden perfection. Definitely going to be trying a few other flavours.
And for dessert Charne and Steven insisted that we had to try the churros. How many should we get ... A bucket load 😂😂
Warm, crispy and covered in Nutella.
It was winter dessert perfection
I have also added a few pics of the market and the lights, as it was so beautiful not to share with you all
