REPOST Via Port Sa'id NYC & In Sheep's Clothing HiFi NYC
NYC friends! On New Years Eve, we will be transforming .nyc into a hi-fidelity dance space in tribute to the historic New York City discotheque Paradise Garage, which was located (quite literally) next door to us on King Street.
To celebrate the occasion we’ve invited Garage disciples Danny Krivit, Trevor Fox, and Elbin Reyes to join us on the decks and guide us into a new year.
Paradise Garage, which opened inside an indoor parking garage at 84 King St. in 1978, is considered hallowed ground by the global dance community.
The sound system engineered by Richard Long with input from resident DJ Larry Levan revolutionized the nightlife experience spawning an era of dancing rather than talking. The sound system was truly high fidelity; the Garage was among the first contemporary dance clubs to actually apply scientifically researched acoustic principles. That sound experience, combined with Levan’s sublime selections that spanned disco, new-wave, and proto-electronic music, created unforgettable moments on the dance floor.
