Ellen Seagraves Chic Florals Beautiful floral design for the Washington, metro area. I am a native Washingtonian who began creating floral designs over 20 years ago.

I have a degree in weaving and textile design and those techniques influence my floral work in many ways. I have studied with some of the great American and international floral designers and delight in all aspects of floral design from ikebana to European and American design. Local flowers are becoming a force in floral design and I embrace this movement as much as I delight in the variety of fl

owers that come to us from all over the world. I am both AIFD and EMC certified and a member of Chapel Designers and the Slow Flowers Movement. I am so lucky to be in this business!

We had such a great time at Amy Kurtenbach’s Pleasant Hills Farm yesterday for IFDA’s annual Local Flower event where visit a farm and have a presentation and workshop. This year Annapolis wedding florist Rhonda Kaplan gave a program on compote design and everyone came up with a beautiful design.

So more silk flowers for my client’s breezeway with little sun during the summer. I made an interesting mix of five foliages and added some poppies and spray roses for a little color. This is a new world to discover.

One of my local florist friends, Ellen Seagraves Chic Florals has a client who wanted to transition from live plants to permanents for a series of hanging baskets. In my opinion, that’s a really smart move (not that I’m biased or anything 🤭)

Here’s one of the finished pieces using a mixture of plastic and silk from the shop. I gotta tell you all, watching Ellen pick out her supplies when she pops by the warehouse is a real treat. She knows exactly what she wants and does not second-guess herself. I could learn a lot from her, lol!!!
