Wasted Youth have just been confirmed as headliners at this year’s Portobello Live festival (PLF), taking place at the Maxilla Social Club, near the Westway and Ladbroke Grove. Also on the bill is Glen Matlock, Richard Strange (Doctors of Madness), JC Carroll (The Members), My Drug Hell, The Goldborns, Jo-Jo & The Teeth, DJ Peter Fox, and lots, lots more.
If you go to the (PLF) website you can find a lot more information about all the events taking place, be it comedy, food, music, art, dance, or perhaps something more cerebral. You can also purchase tickets at a much reduced price before they go up to £20, which is the official ticket price. You get a wristband that gives you access to four stages and over forty acts, and it would be really great to see you there, on Monday, May 8, from 2pm to 12am. I don’t know stage times yet but will keep you updated.
As we’re playing in London three times next month, that’s Portobello Live festival May 8, the Water Rats in Kings Cross (full-set) May 17, and the Wide-Awake festival at Brockwell Park in Lambeth on May 27, we’ve decided to not play London again until our gig with PWEI on October 20. We will, however, be playing in towns/cities we missed on Pt.1 of the ‘Still Wandering’ tour, and we are currently busy getting dates and places finalised. We can’t wait to see you!
I went to the book launch for ‘It’s The Truth’ at Rough Trade West on Thursday, a book about the making of The Only Ones first album by Simon Wright. Alan Mair (bass) had to go it alone as Peter (and his family) had all fallen to illness and John Perry’s car broke down on the way to the launch. It was great to speak to Alan, I think for the first time since 1982, and to hear his take on why the band never got wider recognition and/or fame. Incidentally, Peter told me recently that he’s putting the final touches to a new album, which hopefully we’ll get to hear real soon.
I'm pleased to say that the whole Bandcamp/PayPal issue seems to be sorted now and the first 100 or so orders have been filled and posted. Elaine tells me she’ll post another fifty tomorrow and more thereafter. You can now buy ‘Wild and Wandering (2022 Remaster) with confidence at: https://wastedyouth4.bandcamp.com/
Hope the Easter break has been good (although it's been rather wet today) and maybe gave you a chance to rest your sore knees, achy backs, tired eyes, weary feet, and all other symptoms of too much partying (and older bodies!), before getting your satin and tat out and hitting those dance floors again, groovy!
