Happy Friday flower friends! I know we’ve been quiet on social media since the last — but we’ve been busy!! (Moose, not so much…) While it feels like it’s still summer with 80-degree temps, the calendar warns us that if we want flowers in the spring we need to put in the time and effort now. We have planted about 200’ of anemones and rannuculus, 100’ of larkspur and nice sections of calendula, bachelors buttons, soapwort, rudbeckia and buplureum. We’ve also re-dug and fixed half-dozen paths, and today Max took down all the zinnias. Huge thanks to everyone bringing cardboard — keep it coming! This weekend we’ll be working on our hoop infrastructure — I’ll try to remember to take some photos — and then we’ll start the BIG DAHLIA DIG 😱. Not time to rest yet…

We’ve donated a Random Act of Kindness subscription for 2025! Wish we could be there Saturday but still too much farm work to do to dig dahlias and put the farm to bed. Please support this great local organization!!

We made it to the last seasonal market!! Yeah!! We have the last flowers of the season and a limited number of Max’s original seasonal wreaths. We also have trick-or-treat seeds that you can plant now and kids can play the Flower Farmer Year game to learn what we’ll be doing all winter (spoiler alert: not sleeping 🤪). AND we put a Random Act of Kindness subscription certificate in the market raffle basket which has tons of other goodies. So@come on down and celebrate the season!!

Tomorrow is the last seasonal and I am thrilled to report that we WILL have some flowers! We made it!! We will have six of Max’s riots of color and seven of his one-of-a-kind seasonal wreaths — so get there early!. We will also have The Flower Farmer Year game for the kids — and every kid who plays will be entered to win the first Random Act of Kindness for 2025. And speaking of RAOK we have also donated a gift certificate for ten (10) RAOK for the market raffle basket ($100 value). But wait…there’s more…we will also have free seeds that you can plant now for spring and our regenerative agriculture info to help your soil. Sooooo many reasons to come out tomorrow and celebrate a fabulous farmers market season. See you there!

Max WILL have flowers at tomorrow’s — but not many so come early! We will also have all our regerative farming info — so come learn what you can do this winter for better soil in the spring!! AND back by popular demand, we will have Little Otter t-shirts! We still don’t know if we’ll have flowers next week. This morning’s frost killed some of the dahlias, but not all of them, and we still have a bunch of mums and zinnias in bud. So not dead yet as we like to say around here. If it warms up this week as forecasted who knows… I am learning (the hard way) not to second-guess the weather 🤪. So let’s enjoy this weekend with flowers and worry about next week next week…

Too soon to declare Frostmas…we had a frost but not necessarily killing frost. Stay tuned. We cut practically everything with a bloom last night, so Max WILL be at the with what may be our last 💐. In the meantime I’m enjoying some hot coffee on a cold morning waiting for the sun to hit the flowers… happy Friday!

A HUGE thank you to Lindsay Tomlinson and her agriculture class for helping out on the farm today!! The class measured and bent 80 hoops for our winter low-tunnels!!!! AND they also labeled dahlias, broadforked and raked out a row, transplanted some volunteer bachelors buttons, pulled labels off of some cardboard and weeded a mess of a row where we’ll be planting rannuculus in a few weeks. I can’t believe how much we got done in a few hours. We were so busy working that I did not remember to take pictures until the last hoop. Again, THANK YOU y’all were amazing and we really appreciate the help! Growing flowers, people and community.

It is the last blooms of fall! A bittersweet day as we wrap up the 2024 flower subscriptions and Random Acts of Kindness. A HUGE thank you to all of our subscribers and everyone who has spread over 300 random acts of kindness since March. If we do not get a frost this week, then we will have flowers at the this Saturday…but it all depends on Mother Nature. Enjoy the day flower friends!

Max has flowers at the …BUT this is likely our last week. Forecast for next week looks ominous for the frost. So come get your flowers today and savor the last blooms of fall. Today is also the last day to order Random Acts of Kindness— only $10 at the market. It is a beautiful morning at the market with produce, baked goods, coffee, crafts AND Zen Edge here to sharpen all your sharp stuff! We are getting all our snips sharpened up for dahlia dividing.

Happy Friday friends! We escaped a frost this morning (cut the dahlia last night just in case…) but we might not be so lucky next week with the forecast down to the mid-30’s. So come get your local fresh flowers while you can!! The purple dahlias are still going strong and the mini-yellow sunflowers just exploded. We’ll have all sorts of riots of color as well as a few special lisianthus bunches and arrangements. The early bird gets the best selection… see you tomorrow 8-12 under the pavilion.

Today we welcomed the Classical Conversations homeschool group! We had three rotation where the kids did hands-on activities learning about regenerative agriculture, farming and Autism Awareness. The kids planted crimson clover cover crop, brewed indigenous micro-organisms, saved seeds, dissected flowers, got a farm tour and played the Flower Farmers’ Year game! We love sharing our regenerative farming practices and showing others what people with Autism are capable of achieving. A special HUGE thanks to Kim and Michelle for helping out with the large group and for always supporting Max — we could not do it without you! We are finishing up the 2024 season (stay tuned for an important market post tomorrow!) and starting to plan for 2025. If your group would like to visit the farm you can contact Jen at [email protected].
