After nearly a decade of capturing weddings professionally, one of our favorite moments of each day has become following the couple after they walk back down the aisle at the end of their ceremony. When we started out it always seemed like the most important thing to do was capture the full wedding party as they walked back in the opposite direction...until we realized there were so many little stories playing out behind the scenes that no one else was witnessing. So many hugs, tears, and genuine acts of love directed at the newly married couple. To stand back and record it all always puts a smile on our face and reminds us why we love what we do!

Did you know we offer 35mm film photography as an add on for weddings!? Jenna + Jason had it included in their package, and now less than two weeks later they have digital copies of all 36 frames from a roll of Kodak Portra 400 ready for download. On top of that, when their raw video footage ships out...they’ll also be receiving the actual (analog!) developed film roll negatives alongside it!

Happy birthday to my stunningly beautiful, exceedingly talented, and remarkably loving wife. Bonnie is the backbone of my life and I could never express how grateful I am to have her as my partner. More than five years of being side by side nearly 24/7 and we still begin and end every day with belly laughs, hugs, and kisses. I love you so much, Booon, and hope you have the most wonderful year ahead of you!

Also- yes, of course I know her birthday was actually yesterday! We were camping on a remote island in a lake and then had a big night out on the town when we got home to round things out! And in this house we celebrate birthdays by the month, not day! 🎂🎉🎁🎈

Hey! It's me, Jon. I'm the photo half over here at Mars and the Moon Films. It's not often I speak my voice here and it felt about time to share some thoughts on why I love doing what I do...
-
A lot has gone on over the past several years since I dove head first into photographing weddings full time. I abruptly quit my career as an educator after five years to pursue this passion, I reunited with Bonnie after a lengthy time frame and we combined our businesses, the world lived through a global pandemic and life suddenly paused, we put all our things in storage and lived in a van full time for months on end (twice!), we left our families and friends and moved up to Maine from Florida on a whim, we got engaged and married ourselves, and we began putting down our roots here in New England.

Throughout all of that we have met so many incredible people and remained grounded thanks to this industry and the community surrounding it. From the couples whose engagements, weddings, maternity, family, and newborn photos we've captured, to the other photo/video teams we have met that we can always rely on and are proud to call our friends, to the understanding from everyone when we need a mental and emotional break and disappear for a few days at a time. You've all been amazing.

When I take photographs it isn't just a side hustle or the latest trend everyone is trying to jump on and milk money out of by juicing the algorithm with countless posts that just flood the zone and no one really cares about. My father was a photography teacher and every time I pick up a camera I think about when I was a little kid and he would take me to the photo lab at the high school he taught at and I would have so much fun spinning around in the revolving door to the darkroom. I think about the smell of chemical developer on my hands as I sat in my Economics class after leaving my Independent Study in Photo during high school.

And every time a couple books us my first thought is always what a privilege and honor it is to be tasked with capturing these fleeting moments in their lives using the skills I've learned along the way. I am truly humbled and grateful to all of you. Thank you.

LOVE IS LOVE, it’s not that complicated! Yet somehow we live in a world where, as a wedding vendor, we need to make it ABUNDANTLY clear that we support and advocate for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. As if planning a wedding wasn’t stressful enough, imagine being told, “we won’t be a vendor at your wedding because you’re queer.” Sounds like something out of a fever dream, but it’s not. It’s the struggle that so many couples face when trying to celebrate their love. ✨ New Headshots, WHO 'DIS?! ✨
Time for a lil' refresh and reintroduction! HEY THERE, we're Bonnie and Jon, otherwise known as . We're a Maine-based, wife-husband, video-photo duo capturing weddings, elopements, and engagements across New England, Florida, and beyond. We met 14 years ago in Tampa when we worked at IKEA together while both attending USF (Bon was getting her masters in architecture, and Jon was getting his masters in education). We became friends back then, but life took us on 2 separate, yet oddly parallel paths. Bonnie left her architecture path and pursued wedding videography, while Jon left his teaching career to pursue wedding photography. In 2018, our paths crossed once more, but this time we became more than friends. We spent the next couple of years building our relationship, traveling the country in our camper van during covid, and continuing to capture weddings. We merged our talents together to create our own version of a baby: Mars and The Moon Films + Photos. Around the same time, we uprooted our lives in Florida and moved to Maine. Jon proposed in 2021 while camping in Acadia, and in 2022 we brought our parents up and eloped there.

We've been capturing weddings for 8 years now, and still feel a giddy sense of joy at each and every wedding. How friggin' lucky are we that we get to witness so much love and happiness....that sounds CORNY AS HELL, but we truly mean it. Let's be honest, the world has been pretty bummy lately, to say the least. Life can be pretty sh*tty too sometimes. But weddings have always felt like a place of respite, and a reminder of what's important in this life.

You know what was really great about that cruise we just got back from? There was no children AND they had a retro arcade with all the machines on freeplay (including the original 4 player TMNT) AND they strategically placed it right next to the places that served free pizza and popcorn and candy!

My Story

Cinematography & Videography services located in the Tampa Bay, St.Petersburg Florida area for weddings, special occasions and business/commercial projects.

Born, raised, and still living life in the Tampa Bay area, I've grown up loving the sun, sand, and water all year 'round. I fell in love with film production in middle school and have been filming and editing ever since, but for some reason I went to college for Architecture. After about 2 years in that industry, I quit my job to pursue my true passion, and have fallen in love with capturing couples' stories through their Weddings and more.

Depending on which friends you talk to, they would tell you I'm brutally honest and sarcastic yet compassionate; Adventurous yet professional; "Bad ass" yet humble (quoted from Anna Coats of Marry Me Tampa Bay). On your Wedding day, I want it to feel like we're just hanging out. I hope your parents won't get offended if I curse (I tone it down that day, I promise). I work well with others and don't really understand that whole "photographer/videographer rivalry" thing. In my free time you can find me obsessing over my cat and facebook stalking the single groomsmen from the previous weekend. I would love to get a friend request from you on my personal pages!

OK, but seriously, video is the one thing that you will invest towards your wedding that will truly capture the day: the decorations, cake, bridal preparations, first look, ceremony, vows, reception, speeches, the laughs, the tears, the words, the emotions. Video will capture it all, and a lot of that stuff is going to get thrown away at the end of the day. Invest in a quality videographer to tell the story of your day.
