Matej Šarc, a native of Slovenia, studied oboe with Božo Rogelja at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. He continued his studies with Heinz Holliger at the Musikhochschule Freiburg, Germany, where he completed his studies with distinction. Matej Šarc has performed widely with various chamber groups and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in most European countries and the U.S.A., Canada, Australia, Japan, China among others places. He has recorded for the German label - “Da Camera” the concertos for oboe d’amore by G. Ph. Telemann, T. Albinoni’s oboe concertos, L. Berio’s Sequenza VII for Naxos, W. A. Mozart: Oboe-Quartet for Arsis, G. Ph. Telemann: Twelve Fantasias for Radio Slovenia, Romantic Oboe Concertos with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Bach Concertos and Sinfonias etc.
Matej Šarc is a strong advocate of contemporary music and has worked closely with composers who have written music specifically for him. He was the principal oboist of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Slowind woodwind quintet. In addition to his performing engagements, Matej Šarc teaches oboe at Ljubljana Academy of Music and Conservatory for Music and Ballet in Ljubljana.
He has colaborated with the internationaly acclaimed artist and composers like Elliott Carter, Vinko Globokar, Heinz Holliger, Matthias Pintscher, Jürg Wyttenbach, Toshio Hosokawa, Radovan Vlatković, Alexander Lonquich, Naoko Yoshino, Aleksandar Madžar, Nicolas Altstaedt, Ivan Fedele and many others.
Recently Matej Šarc started devoting his musical experiences to baroque music. Both as conductor and oboist he has initiated the Festival of Baroque Music at the Slovenian Philharmonic, where he presented rarely performed works from baroque era.
