✨ A message from Vasthy ✨
🇭🇹 I am so proud to be a Haitian American. I have always had a connection to first-generations from other countries. Those I have connected to believe we are lucky to be here.
🌎 I think being a first-generation means you do not forget where you came from and share your culture with the world you are in.
👩🏿🦱 I have spent many years of my childhood trying to figure out where I fit in. Being first-gen can do that, you are raised in one culture while growing up in another. We often hide that part of us because as a kid all you want to do is to be like everyone around you.
📺 I love shows like Dora the Explorer, Nina’s World, and Handy Manny as they introduce American kiddos here that there is a world beyond their own and it is rich in language, different foods, animals, customs, and games.
🇭🇹 At Vasthy and Friends, I would love for Haiti to be part of that conversation. It is the best way for any country to be real and seen so that there is a chance that their familiarity with the places they explore as kids will lead future generations lending a hand to those who need it.

We can’t celebrate Martin Luther Long Jr without celebrating Mrs Coretta Scott King, a public figure whose lifelong advocacy for the oppressed and underrepresented deserves recognition in its own right.
✍🏽 One of the most influential African-American leaders of her time, Mrs. King received honorary doctorates from over 60 colleges and universities; authored two books, edited a compilation of quotes by Dr. King, maintained a nationally-syndicated newspaper column, and served on and helped found dozens of organizations.
👩🏽🦱 Balancing motherhood and movement work, Mrs. King was a mother, a wife, a civil rights activist, a passionate speaker, an organized and inspiring figure whose impact was felt on a global scale.
