Social stories!
What are they? Social stories use photographs and descriptive words to guide children through real-life situations. Social stories are stories written with the specific purpose of teaching a child or children how to complete a task in a positive and encouraging way.
Why do they work? Research shows that social stories are effective in positively changing behaviors, teaching social skills, communication and tasks as well as decreasing anxiety in the child.
Why use social stories for a Photoshoot?
Have you ever been in a situation and you weren’t sure how to act or what was expected of you? Perhaps a job interview, this is how your child may feel about going to the studio to have their photo taken. By ready this story together in the lead up to the session you can help prepare your child for what to expect and this can reduce their anxiety over the unknown.
Ps. I’ve also had lots of parents who have found them helpful too! All children like to be informed and this is the perfect resource to equip them for the minis!
