Can you believe this didn’t even make the final cut?!

When we were hired to work on the Bacardi Activation for , they wanted to see a quick example of what a Bottle Tattoo would look like.

I didn’t have anything prepared, but you bet your ass I grabbed a bottle of out of my fridge, ran out to my garden and cut some flowers, and put this together.

Needless to say, they loved it, and we blew it out of the effing PARK with Bacardi.

But it didn’t stop there.

Would you know that just ONE tag to (because duh, I shared one of the photos), resulted in them sending over a CASE?

Florals fit for a freaking PRINCESS. You can’t tell me Melanie & Connor don’t look like two characters right out of a Disney movie!

The bridal party (and Grandma!) wore beautiful floral patterns, and I wanted to bring that to life with a design that lifted the prints off the dresses and became something tangible for their guests to interact with.

Mission accomplished? You bet your ass.

Whimsical is one of my freaking favorite words when it comes to floral design.

If you look at my pieces and feel like you’ve gone through Alice’s looking glass...I did my job right.

I love when things are popping out and when the colors are bold — it looks like the arrangement is literally coming to life and reaching out to you. If your florals don’t have people talking and interacting with them (and no, I don’t mean just a sniff), then it’s time we had a talk.

One of the things I pride myself on is hearing your vision and then challenging you to level it TF up with innovative designs that seem to...defy gravity in ways.

Of course I threw in an effing Wicked reference. I don’t live under a rock!

Weddings are MAGIC. Full stop. No matter the vibe, no matter the theme...there will always be something otherwordly about them.

Your florals play a crucial role in transporting people, even for just an evening, to that place that you’ve dreamt up for months, sometimes even YEARS.

We’re carefully crafting an in-between space where people forget their troubles and focus on just one beautiful thing: LOVE.

Um, hello?! Getting to play with a freaking FIREPLACE? Yeah, you know I went to town with that. But would you expect anything less?

I’m SO over keeping it traditional (who’s surprised?) when it comes to the background of a ceremony. I want to enhance what we’re working with, not hide it.

I actually told one of my October brides that we were ditching the concept of covering an entire wall at their ceremony just 6 weeks out from her wedding, and she was on board. I’m not afraid to say I know what I’m talking about, because HELLO, I have the receipts right here people!!!

This is what I want you to remember: You chose the damn venue for a reason! So let’s show it off!

If someone every catches me making a tight, one-dimensional arrangement in a simple vessel…slap me. Hard. Because I’ll have obviously lost my mind.

In case you didn’t know, I was a freaking engineer. So I know a thing or two about structure. So whenever I’m crafting an arrangement, you’re going to see varying heights and widths and textures that make you look at it and dissect it like it’s a piece of damn art. Because it is.

The shape of this pedestal was SO effing cool and was practically begging for greenery to be draped across it.

You know the questions you ask people when trying to come up with a conversational starter? Like “if you were to have one living or non-living person come to dinner, who would it be and why?” Well, the question I like to ask is “if you were forced to eat one vegetable for the rest of your life, what would it be.” My answer is ALWAYS potatoes. I love them literally any way; mashed, Hasselback, French, gratin, salad...anything. But my most favorite way is baked. Don’t know why but a baked potato with butter, sour cream and chives is like a spoon full of comfort to me.

So, the other day my husband and I went out to dinner, and I had one thing on my mind - baked potatoes. I subsequently ordered a loaded baked potato (which was to come with all the fixing plus cheese and bacon) as my dinner. When the waitress came to bring the order, she plopped the potato in front of me and said “I am so sorry, but we ran out of butter.” WTH! For me, the butter is one of the key components of the potato. Isn’t butter like, say salt, the most basic of basic ingredients that one needs to run a proper kitchen. Its like a florist who has no flowers. Imagine if I gave a customer a beautiful crystal vase full of water and nutrients with no stems in it and I say “I’m sorry, we ran out of flowers”.

I contemplated asking the waitress if someone could just go buy some butter at the grocery store that was RIGHT NEXT TO THE RESTURANT. I didn’t ask. As you can imagine, the baked potato sucked – and insult to injury, the bacon wasn’t even real!

Steele Orchid is always organized and stocked with the correct ingredients for your floral needs. I can honestly say that if we did run out of butter though, my ass would be at the grocery store getting that butter and putting it on the table so that the baked potato was delivered as expected.

This beautiful old car somehow reminds me of how disrespectful my brothers and I were of my parent’s cars. We had no regard for tires (we use to peel out everywhere) or brakes (slamming them on to feel the fishtail and the hear the squeal). My father was always bitching to my mom that he often had to get new tires and brakes. Every. Single. Year. I honestly can’t quite figure out why he never suspected us. But, I tell you what, if ever I caught my kids doing that to my car, they would literally be living in a cardboard box under the Walt Whitman Bridge.

Whoa Nelly! This disconnected archway pulled a double duty by 1. first framing the married couple at the altar and then 2. framing the couple again but behind the sweetheart table at the reception. Now that’s a great use of your floral budget! As you can see from this photo Steele Orchid also zhuzhed the ceiling in this venue by adding a ton of wild smilex on the beams and the chandelier (along with wisteria and orchids)! Such great vibes. And one happy couple!

I thought this was the most gorgeous spot for a garden ceremony. Winterthur walled in garden was so serene and beautifully landscaped that you almost did not need florals…I said almost. A huge discontinuous archway was literally ketchup on the hotdog.

Steele Orchid

I have a passion for flowers and creating designs that have a WOW factor. My love for flowers came from my mother who was a horticulturalist and designed gardens and floral arrangements. She won many awards, often the top ones, at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Although I do not have formal training like my mentor, it’s in my blood!

As much as possible, I use locally sourced flowers, oftentimes from my own garden! My moto, when it comes to arranging, is that more is more - the more flowers used, the better and the bigger the arrangement, the better. Steele Orchid uses color, texture and design combinations that are typically totally unexpected.

Steele Orchid designs custom bouquets for proms and weddings, and flower arrangements for showers, parties, and other events.
