Last Halloween, our unpaid intern thought it would be awesome to make the food at a SHOT Halloween murder mystery party glow. On the heels of our huge announcement yesterday about the roll out of our Interactive Murder Mystery Dinner Parties, here’s a quick reference chart to understand which format is for you!

Both have the same interactive design SHOT is renowned for. But many hosts like to cook for their guests, and have the investigation seated, as opposed to having guests mingle.

But let’s be real, even with this new format, it’s still YOUR party, and ultimately, we design everything to help you, as the host, make the mystery work for your party, not the other way around. I have hosted parties where it becomes a mash-up of both a dinner party and a seated investigation! Regardless of whether you choose a cocktail party style Mingle Mystery or a 3 course dinner party, both are flexible enough to work into whatever you want, or whatever may come your way during the mystery party!

Housewives! Season 5 promises more drama, more glitz, and more secrets
than ever before. Our favorite housewives are back, and they’re ready to bring
you into their world of luxury, drama and scandal.
The Season 5 Kick-Off party is taking place at Peyton Fletcher’s house. Peyton,
one of the show’s original cast members, hosts the kick-off party each year in
her mansion. The party largely takes place outside around the pool, and no
expense is spared as Peyton transforms her family home with a dance floor,
live band, and more! Cameras roll as the party plays out, catching all the
designer dresses, tiny purse dogs, snippy one-liners and side eye glances.
But when one of the cast members, Joelle Glass, is found murdered in the
hallway, suddenly these reality TV stars find themselves suspects in her
murder! Who killed her? Why? Gather your funnest friends and get ready for a
KILLER night as you solve The Really Desperate Housewives Murder!

This time last year we were at in Colorado Springs, in the heart of the Garden of the Gods, throwing a 3-day murder mystery event using The Sly Mr. Foxx (our nod to The Great Gatsby)! I have so much lost footage from this event, and I’m going to be sharing it all over the next few days! The story behind it is one for the books, and there were so many twists and turns to throwing this event… there are many tales to tell. So watch this space for more!

Last year I had no idea, when I started writing Murder at the Seance, that this mystery plot and characters would so consume me, and take over my every thought. The story ended up a backstory for another mystery I launched shortly after, called The Phantom of The Theatre. Repeat client was one of the first hosts to take this murder mystery party for a spin, and sent the greatest pics to us after! Here’s what she said about what is now my new personal favourite mystery party game we carry - Murder at the Seance. It’s also the hardest, I created it for our devoted hosts to have an amazing challenge. From Amelia:

Oh. My. Word. That was AMAZING!! By far our favorite mystery we’ve done (and we’ve done at least 6) (with another one coming on the 12th). This is the first time we’ve all really gotten into our characters, and the twists and turns in the story made that all the more exciting. We were able to solve the mystery, although it took us about three and a half hours (there were 16 of us). There was definitely screaming, drama, and some really intense fake crying (coming from our Asha), and it could not have been more fun.

When you went to our website, this little grim reaper would fly around your computer screen (cutting edge tech for a world that still considered MySpace the height of social media!) We’ve come a long way, baby, and we are just getting started! I’m doing a customization for a client, Lisa, who is throwing The Phantom of the Theatre and I realized I never shared this exclusive poster in the Host Materials! The Phantom of the Theatre just launched last fall. I wrote it immediately after Murder at the Seance - and it has a lot of lore.

The play being put on at The Moxey Theatre in this mystery is called The Blue Lady, which is the story of part of what happened in the back-story of Murder at the Seance. The MOXEY theatre is so named because it was originally built by one of the characters from the backstory of The New Year’s Eve Party Murder (and the upcoming Murder in the Jungle, with references to the events in Death By Chocolate). The Moxey Theatre itself has a thick history, being the scene of Charles “Lucky” Coleman’s murder in the upcoming finale of our best-selling 1920s series - in fact, it’s revealed in Phantom of the Theatre that Lucky Coleman’s blood is still on the floor of The Cloak Room, the speakeasy hidden beneath the theatre.

Phantom of the Theatre includes a poster-worthy file for our hosts to use to create the Moxey Theatre in their homes while throwing Phantom of the Theatre!

Today we look at The Halloween Party Murder! This is when Leigh got all slasher movie up in here. They discover the murder when a video of it arrives on the doorstep. At first everyone at the party thinks it’s a trick, until they go downstairs and find the victim, tied to a chair and… well, we’ll leave the rest of the gory details to the Announcement of Murder. This is now the hardest mystery we carry, so we do recommend it for our more advanced clients.
