November! People near Charlottesville, there's a DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) event happening this Sunday that is open to the public, commemorating a visit by Lafayette to the area in the early 1800's. I was delighted to make this outfit for one of the organizers. Designed to be historic in flavor, but easy to wear and comfortable when it is HOT out. Pictured with the backdrop with the pocket hoops it would have been originally worn with, and in the sewing space without the hoops.

I'm working through a huge communications backlog and 'resetting' the studio space, so it may be early next week before all are responded to. Have a great weekend!

Happy Halloween! However you dress up, I hope you have a most excellent time. Thank you all for an awesome Halloween rush and 24 years of trusting me to create costumes for your characters or clothing to spice up your everyday life. You are the best!

Pictured: the delightful Eric as Robin Hood: Man in Tights.

P.S. Post/send your action photos, you know I love them!

Work in progress views of a High Republic costume made from cotton twill, silk, and linen. I thought I had taken a full view image of the completed project, but somehow in the flurry to get it packaged and shipped it didn't happen. Hoping the customer sends action photos!

How To Tuesday: sealing/rounding cut plastic boning ends. One of the things I do that you don't get to see once the garments are finished. :) Plastic boning is far more flexible than steel, costs less, and is easy to find. https://youtube.com/shorts/1vbNMUdo8AE

I was delighted to work with Rob Kendzie and the Co-Op to design and create the costumes for the Forest Spirit, the Druid, and the Urchin. The Hunter and the Woodcutter's costumes were not made by me, but the others were a joy of multimedia materials to make and embellish/distress. Work in progress images and behind the scenes are available here if you scroll back to last year. :)

Gothic Rose cloak features a textured black outer layer with tone on tone roses and leaves, fully lined with the same shimmering fabric as the Dracula inspired cloak. It features an oversized hood and black frog closure at the neck. New fabric in the Studio: a speckled brown silk/wool blend, shown in first photo with the brown wool flannel I usually make the stock Jedi robes from. Fiber content: 30% wool/40% acryllic/15% silk/15% recycled. Available for your custom order projects after Halloween!

Halloween rush is still in full swing. I made two last robes from the cinnamon brown wool broadcloth (shown with the same regular darker brown wool flannel in 3rd picture), and at the last moment when ironing the completed robes, I noticed a tiny hole, one in each. :( Offering the last cinnamon brown robe in a 52" length on sale for the usually stocked cotton twill robe price of $155 including regular domestic shipping. The hole has been fray checked to stabilize it. There is a red safety pin at the hole's location in the second image, you can see it is right below the hood draping level of center back. PM for details/to make a purchase. Thank you and have a great day!

How To Tuesday: removing blood from white fabric. If possible, rinse or soak the item/area in cold water first, wring out the excess water, then apply hydrogen peroxide and distribute it throughout the stained area. Rinse with cold water once finished and launder as usual. Not recommended for fabrics with color as a bleaching effect may occur. https://youtube.com/shorts/EVqAy9GfnZ8

A look back into the recent past at a custom ordered Qimir/The Stranger costume cloak layer. Many thanks again to Rob and the Saber Guild people who compiled a comprehensive document of clear images all around the character's costume for all the layers. This made its debut at NY Comic Con last weekend. This pleather was a lucky find, with a luxurious realistic look on both sides to mimic leather, and a fantastic drape.
🍂🎃If you are in the USA and need a costume by the 31st (Halloween), place your order before the 25th so I have time to make any needed obis or changes to length. Thank you and have a good day today, everyone!

A look back into the recent past at a custom ordered Qimir/The Stranger costume I made, showing the layers under the cloak. Many thanks to Rob and the Saber Guild people who compiled a comprehensive document of clear images all around the character's costume for all the layers (including an Omega I recognized *waves at Millie*).

Anyone have burning questions they want to have answered on a future 'How to Tuesday' post/video? I've been posting a variety of things for a while: tips on wearing, how to sew, behind the scenes, etc. What would you like to see more of?

How to Tuesday: adding visual texture/interest to parts of a custom ordered costume. This is a longer format, time lapse video of me working on 1/4 of the shoulder panels for this custom order. The sped up portion is 3x speed, with a 15 minute timer in frame. I'm a costume maker, not a camera operator, so bear with me as I learn how to do these videos. At least I didn't trip over the tripod! :) https://youtu.be/AD3E5C_IArY

Hello and welcome to all the new visitors! I'm a one person shop and Halloween rush is in full swing. It will take a while for me to return calls/messages/texts/emails while I focus on processing website orders and completing existing custom orders. If your deadline is after Halloween, I can add you to the waitlist to contact at the end of the month, or you can reach out again around then.

Here's a look back at a custom ordered set of robe, surcoat, and hood made from 100% linen and also same style in a synthetic but breathable dark charcoal gray fabric.

I hope you are all doing well and staying safe.

Behind the scenes, test dyeing some fabric for an upcoming custom order...with "assistance"? "I see you are trying to test dye some fabric, have you done this before?" Three different test batches, can the fabric be dyed, and if so, what type of dyes and chemistry will be needed to make the changes. What I learned: this fabric doesn't change a lot. What you learned: I have a weird sense of humor. Just keeping up morale during Halloween rush as a one person studio. :)
