The Change We Wanted To See; The Change We Became - The Story So Far
ILLUSION Event Promotions began as a Dream between four university students.
This shared dream was the product of the four founders having arrived in the late summer of 2017 to an environment largely unfamiliar to themselves - this place being the birthplace of ILLUSION - Norfolk, Norwich, and more specifically: UEA.
The University of East Anglia is a picturesque location with much to see. However, upon arrival the four founders of ILLUSION realised with time there wasn’t much to do - speaking in terms of nightlife, events and outings “We are here, but we aren’t represented enough, why?”. While there was some variation there wasn’t quite enough and this was their epiphany.
At this point the University had welcomed an increased number of Black and ethnic minority students - the problem however was this population wasn’t entirely reflected in the options that such students had for nights out and club events that would cater to them and their preferred genres of music and the vibe they sought. There was a frustration that this brought to students, a frustration that grew louder as the year passed. The four shared this same frustration and added their voices to the cry for change.
