The weather is still wintry here from time to time, but the forecast looks good for shipping the week of April 26th. If there are a couple plants in a collection you already have I'm happy to give you other plants to pick from. Each collection is 110.00 postage paid. Hello friends! Spring is finally here, or close anyway. I wanted to show people how close I grow my tiny streptocarpus and Sinningia speciosa seedlings to the lights. You will end up with spindly, weak growth if you dont!

I wanted to share a few streptocarpus that have been blooming around here. I've been evaluating, repotting, tossing, grooming, making crosses, putting leaves down of favorites in hopes that we'll have shows and sales next year, etc. If you are looking for some reasonably priced plants send me a message!

I wanted to share how I prepare my outdoor planters. Some of the planters available are huge and take a tremendous amount of soil to fill them up. Good soil is expensive, and so are the plants. I like to fill the bottom of the pot with weeds, dry leaves, etc and then mix in some soil from last year's containers until this combo fills the pot to about half. I then sprinkle organic granular Gardentone fertilizer on this layer and scratch it in. Next I fill the rest of the pot with fresh potting mix (Miracle-gro) and scratch in more Gardentone. It is best to start this process as the weather warms in March and April. After the plants have froze in the fall cut down the foliage and store the big ceramic pots on their heads. In the spring all those weeds and leaves will have broken down and you can use that material as your base for the following year! This method grows big, glorious flowers and succulents!

I've always wanted to attend the Denton workshop and by golly today it happened. The Denton, Texas African violet club has hosted this event for 13 years in a row. They have a plant sale, (found some treasures), have featured speakers, (I talked about basic culture for beginners and design), and I can't forget THE FOOD.... Just how we'd do it in Nebraska! I met some new friends and reunited with some old. Oh and the Crape Myrtle are blooming here, one of my favorites.
