Playtime with Rachel Duns
Rachel is one of the exciting young up and coming talents on the Scottish scene. Her jazz journey took off when she started transcribing Dexter Gordon solo's in her teens, and 2 years ago she finished the course at the RCS in Glasgow. Since graduating she has been exploring a range of music avenues including psychedelia-inspired music from the 1960's. Rachel joined the Fab Four last week on tenor sax, flute and vocals and it was really great. Here is the gig!!
Tonight see the whole gig at 8.15pm.
Tom interviews the exciting young saxophonist Rachel Duns about her route in jazz and life since graduating from the RCS in Glasgow. Rachel joins Playtime live this thursday!
Playtime Live With Michelle Willis
Join us for some fantastic music with Michelle Willis and the Playtime quartet, recorded live from The Outhouse.
Playtime & Michelle Willis
Check out the fantastic Michelle Willis with Playtime. Her singing has hints of Joni, with a dash of Paul Simon, and occasional tinge of Bob Dylan - but is also totally Michelle. And wonderful songs too. Last week's concert will be available on our YT snd FB channels from 8.15pm tomorrow night. To watch check out linktree in bio. Graeme Stephen

Here is Tom's video with the fantastic guest Michelle Willis who joins Playtime this week. She has played and sung with David Crosby (yes that one!) Michael McDonald and Snarky Puppy and has now moved to Scotland. It's a very interesting story with some fantastic music.
Here is the interval interview with the marvellous poet and guitarist Don Paterson who joins Playtime in the Outhouse next Thursday. Tom and Don talk about Ken Hyder, Derek Bailey, Tim Garland and hating Dundonian guitarist Kevin Murray (later on loving him though...) and discover a previously unknown first encounter in Istanbul in the 80's.
Playtime Plays Threadgill
THIS IS THE FULL CONCERT WITH NO TECHNICAL GLITCHES!
This is something of a bucket list project for Playtime drummer Tom Bancroft - who has loved Henry Threadgill's amazing compositions since the 1980's. Threadgill is one of the most important American Composers of the last century - his music is a unique, searing, vivid, blues-soaked mixture of jazz, ragtime and the avant-garde composed and performed with an incredible depth of intent and rigour.
Threadgill was a founder member of the AACM in Chicago and has had an stellar career starting with the trio AIR, and then his two drummer seven piece Septett in the 1980\s, through a larger ensemble the Very Very Circus and then latterly a smaller group Zooid. This concert focuses mainly on the amazing series of albums he made in the 1980's with his Septett including: You Know the Number; Rag,Bush and All; Easily Slip Into Another World; Just the Facts and Pass the Bucket - with 6 tunes from this period.
In order to perform this music there is a very special ensemble featuring superb guest line up of Robert Henderson (trumpet), Anoushka Nanguy (trombone and vocals), and Chun-wei Kang (drums) along with Playtime regulars Martin Kershaw (sax), Graeme Stephen (guitar), Mario Caribé (bass) and Tom Bancroft (drums).
