We are now taking expressions of interest from artists who are keen to exhibit at Art Hole between March and July 2025!

Gallery rental starts at just $85 per week! Solo and group exhibitions welcome, and artists of any medium, ability or experience level welcome to apply, including artists who have never exhibited their work before!

Last year we hosted 22 exhibitions in our wee gallery, and we loved every moment of it!

Our final event for the year took place on December 15th and was the Redacted Viewing Party!

Artist Joshua Drummond painted a photorealistic portrait of Christopher Luxon which he put up for auction on TradeMe to raise money for Kiwipal and Rainbow Youth, but soon after, TradeMe removed the painting, deeming it "risky for buyers".

To make the painting safe for viewing, Josh carefully covered over the flesh-pink background.

We gathered for a big reveal at Art Hole which featured an artist talk from Josh, live music from JINX duo, and a poetry performance from Tusiata Avia.

Thanks to all attended, and to Rebecca, who bought the painting and organised the event!

Still a few more days to come see Identity, an exhibition which brings together the work of three emerging artists, each exploring themes of identity through their distinct creative practices. While their approaches differ in media and subject matter, a shared commitment to questioning and expressing the self unites the work.

IDENTITY is showing this week at Art Hole.

This exhibition brings together the work of three emerging artists who are studying at Ara, each exploring themes of identity through their distinct creative practices. While their approaches differ in media and subject matter, a shared commitment to questioning and expressing the self unites the work.

Expressions of interest are now open for the Grace Butler Memorial Foundation Award where an artist will be selected to receive $20,000 and a 3 month artist’s residency at a studio at Ara School of Art and Design.

Expressions of interest open now, and close 4pm on Dec 16th.
