This might a a controversial opinion, one you definitely need not heed. I am a big proponent of first looks. Not just specifically between the two getting married (although that too), but with close members of the family, and wedding party. Yes, as a wedding photographer, I love that first looks lend to the overall quality of your gallery, but more importantly, for you, first looks create a window of emotional openness, vulnerability. I see it as a form of gratitude, a way of saying āYou of all people, earned the right to see me before anyone else.ā That little bit of one on one time is special, it is a core memory worthy, once in a lifetime opportunity. I am a big fan, and would love to see more of it. š

Having a large wedding can offer a variety of benefits. Firstly, it allows you to celebrate your special day with a larger circle of family and friends, creating unforgettable memories with more loved ones. Additionally, a large wedding can provide a more lively and festive atmosphere, with greater opportunities for entertainment and activities to keep guests engaged. You can set up photo booths with props and backdrops for guests to take memorable pictures, organize fun games or activities during the reception to keep everyone engaged, and definitely hire an stellar live band or DJ to get the party started. Adding personal touches like custom cocktails, themed decor, or a unique guest book can also make the event more enjoyable and memorable for everyone involved. Donāt forget to include surprises or special moments throughout the day to keep the excitement and energy high, creating a truly unforgettable celebration for all! Ultimately, a large wedding can be an incredible, joyous occasion that brings together people from different parts of your life to share in your happiness and create lasting connections. Thumbs up! Iām in! š
Here are some fun tips to make your rainy wedding day even more special:
1. Embrace the āwet lookā - who needs a fancy hairstyle when you can rock that just-out-of-the-shower vibe?
2. Use colorful umbrellas as props - because rain is just natureās way of adding some pizzazz to your wedding photos!
3. Have a āRain Danceā - turn those raindrops into your own personal disco lights and dance the night away.
4. Create a DIY rain boot station - nobody wants soggy wedding shoes, so provide some stylish rain boots for your guests to rock on the dance floor.
5. Serve āRaindropā cocktails - add a splash of blue curacao to your signature drinks for that rainy day vibe.
6. Play āSinging in the Rainā during your ceremony - because who doesnāt love a classic Gene Kelly moment?
7. Hand out cute personalized umbrellas as wedding favors - because practicality and style can go hand in hand.
8. Remember, you are getting married rain or shine. So embrace it, and consider yourselves the luckiest, most hydrated couple in the world! Haha
Rest assured, I will be there for you every step of the way, ensuring that you never feel lost or unsure. You can count on me to guide you through the day and make sure everything else runs smoothly. Iāve got your back!

Congratulations to Chris and Kimberlee, on literally tying the knot; with the guidance of @loisheckman , who performed an incredibly touching ceremony on the sunniest of Saturdays. I really do wish Fall would stick around longer, and provide more days like it. What a great wedding day! š„š¾ Safe trip back to Oregon! āļø
Elopement vs. Micro Wedding: A wedding elopement typically refers to a small, intimate wedding ceremony that is usually kept secret and involves only the couple and a few close witnesses. It often takes place in a unique or remote location, such as a beach, mountain, or city hall. Elopements are often chosen by couples who want a more private and spontaneous wedding experience.
On the other hand, a micro wedding is a scaled-down version of a traditional wedding, typically with a guest count of 50 or fewer. It still includes the usual elements of a wedding ceremony and reception, but on a smaller scale. Micro weddings are often chosen by couples who want to have a more intimate celebration with their closest family and friends.
In terms of pricing for photography coverage, elopements tend to be less expensive compared to micro weddings or larger traditional weddings. This is because elopements usually have a shorter duration, resulting in less time required from the photographer.
Micro weddings, although smaller in scale, still involve a more traditional wedding structure with a ceremony, reception, and potentially more guests. Therefore, the pricing for photography coverage for micro weddings may be slightly higher than elopements, as they typically require more time and effort from the photographer to capture all the important moments and details of the day.
However, itās important to note that pricing can vary depending on various factors such as location, photographerās experience, package inclusions, and additional services requested. Itās always recommended to discuss pricing and coverage details directly with the photographer to get an accurate estimate for your specific elopement or micro wedding.
What is the difference between a venue and a wedding coordinator? As mentioned in the Reel, the venue coordinator represents the venue, while a wedding coordinator represents you. It is important to understand the difference, to ensure your expectations are placed on the correct person. Be sure to study the commitments and responsibilities of your coordinators well before the wedding day. Coordinators are a valuable part of all events. I had the pleasure of working with some incredibly tenacious professional coordinators, who made my job as wedding photographer and the weddings of brides significantly better. So, donāt forget to thank your venue and wedding coordinators!
This Reel doesnāt even get background music. Its cover, my photo, the guilty party. Guilty of not being able to record a Reel in one shot. Guilty of improvising when she has a perfectly fine script already thought up. Guilty of being cheesy af. Haha Itās all in good humor though. After all, if you cannot laugh at yourself, what is life about?

The simplest, most underrated advice I can give youā¦ It works for all sessions, all weddings, and generally speaking, in life. I am definitely not qualified to give you life advice, but photography, I know. š
If you ever felt the energy in the room change, after someoneās negative remark, you will understand this. If anyone ever matched your energy to elevate your joint experience, you will understand this. It goes both ways.
šļø Optimistic expectations + affectionate actions & language = positive, unforgettable, core experience šļø
Photo sessions (and equally, wedding photography) are a luxury. Treat it as such. Know, it is something you worked hard for, and deserve. Romanticize it. Keep it light, have fun, take it all in.ā„ļø Trust me, Iām a photographer. ššø
Just a few tips for those of you who find the idea of a wedding day a bit overwhelming. The thing to remember is, it is your wedding day, and you can have it your way. Or, itās your party, and you can cry if you want to. Haha
Once again, preparedness will be your best friend. Use whatever tools needed to get you through the day. It might be, that when it is all about to go down, your nerves will dissolve, and you will enjoy your worry-free wedding. I want that for you. If not, I hope youāll find some of my tips useful. Feel free to add yours in the comments. Ta!
Ahhh, family portraits! What fun! Haha
In all the excitement of getting married, we often overlook the importance of getting organized, before the wedding. And that right there is your best chance at eliminating a lot of the stress that is associated with group portraiture. Give your family members, clear, precise directions, on where to be, and when. For more tips, see reel! Feel free to share tips that helped you be more organized during your family portraits.
A personal recommendations: Utilize Zola, a phone app. It has a contact collector, and allows you to send group texts. Handy when you need to communicate with a large group. š

Too often, money as the main dictator, insisting you hire someone whose work you donāt necessarily love. Let me be the devilās advocate here and encourage you to at the least open up to a conversation, with your favorite artist, even if they are slightly above your budget. You know the whole āArm and a legā thing, thatās not what photographers want. They, we want to keep our doors open, and to support our families. We want your business! We want your repeat business, and recommendations. We want you to be happy with the value you are receiving in exchange for your hard earned money. So rather than completely shutting out your dream photographer, talk to us about your vision, your timelines, the values you are looking for. And in this conversation, you will learn the most valuable thing: Is this photographer truly the type of person you are willing to spend the most important day of your life with. Because you will never get that day back. So, donāt let your budget be the dictator, I say! Haha Allow other factors and persons to be a part of that conversation. And thatās all I will say on the subjectā¦ More in the Reel! āŗļø
