This one was a JOURNEY. I mean, when you know you’re gonna have something photographed by , you better make it good, right?? Where this started was completely different than where it began.
Day one: I fall in love with this twisty, adorable poppy bud. I roll with the green, earthy vibes- I go deep into texture and leaf land and felt good there. The poppy bud was my hero. I took a few pics, got back to our air b n b, and realized it photographed… terribly.
I resolve to make a few edits when I come in for day two. Well, as I should’ve predicted… my little perfect bud was happily blooming, beautiful and also throwing off the whole design. I start to panic. I make about 12,000 tweaks while looks on, encouraging me to basically calm the F*^* down, in a nice way. I can’t. I basically start over.
Gabriela comes around. I tell her my palette is a hot mess. She says it’s not a mess, just think of where the camera is looking. It maybe needs one little thing going downward.
I add the drooping bud. It works. It helps. I take a deep breath. Since I’m already somehow in color land instead of earthy somehow, I grab the big beautiful pink and white ranunculus to add a pop.
Its working. I could keep going, but I know I need to let it be. I had to walk away (thank you all three instructors for reminding us of the importance of this).
And like magic, once we put my design against the black backdrop, the colors sang. It all worked out. And, as happens so often for so many of us I’m sure… as I look back on the pictures now, I don’t pick it apart. I love it. I’m in awe of the beautiful flowers that we got to design with and all the different directions each designer took with them. This image means a lot to me, . Thank you Gabriela and for all your nuggets of wisdom that I’ll take with me in my design.
We all have our unique style, and I think 5 years into this, I’m finally settling into mine.
