What is "The Blues"?
Blues is an African-American music that traverses a wide range of emotions and musical styles. “Feeling blue” is expressed in songs whose verses lament injustice or express longing for a better life and lost loves, jobs, and money. But Blues is also a raucous dance music that celebrates pleasure and success. Central to the idea of Blues performance is the concept that, by performing or listening to The Blues, one is able to overcome sadness and lose The Blues.

Riley B. King (September 16, 1925 – May 14, 2015), known professionally as B. B. King, was an American Blues Guitarist, Singer, Songwriter, and Record Producer. He introduced a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending, shimmering vibrato, and staccato picking that influenced many later Blues Electric Guitar Players. AllMusic recognized King as "the single most important Electric Guitarist of the last half of the 20th Century".

John Lee Ho**er (August 22, 1912 or 1917 – June 21, 2001) was an American Blues Singer, Songwriter, and Guitarist. The son of a Sharecropper, he rose to prominence performing an electric guitar-style adaptation of Delta Blues that he developed in Detroit. Ho**er often incorporated other elements, including Talking Blues and early North Mississippi Hill Country Blues. He developed his own driving-rhythm Boogie style, distinct from the 1930s–1940s piano-derived Boogie-Woogie. Ho**er was ranked 35 in Rolling Stone's 2015 list of 100 greatest Guitarists, and has been cited as one of the greatest male Blues Vocalists of all time.

Zakiya Ho**er was born into The Blues. You could even say she had a front-row seat to the best the genre had to offer, right in her living room - her Dad was the renowned Blues giant, John Lee Ho**er. She was privileged to see and hear some of the greats that shaped the history of The Blues as we know it. Zakiya has pursued life, and music, on her terms. Her music paints a broad swath in the styles it covers. A strong and versatile Vocalist, with a Jazzy, Blues sound. Her newest release 'A Bluesman's Journey' honoring her Father is charting at #3 on the Soul Blues Charts.

Gertrude "Ma" Rainey (April 26, 1886 – December 22, 1939) was an American Blues Singer and influential early-Blues Recording Artist. Dubbed the "Mother of the Blues", she bridged earlier vaudeville and the authentic expression of Southern Blues, influencing a generation of Blues Singers. Rainey was known for her powerful vocal abilities, energetic disposition, majestic phrasing, and a "moaning" style of singing. Her qualities are present and most evident in her early recordings "Bo-Weevil Blues" and "Moonshine Blues".

William Christopher Handy (November 16, 1873 – March 28, 1958) was an American Composer and Musician who referred to himself as the Father of the Blues. He was one of the most influential Songwriters in the United States. One of many Musicians who played the distinctively American Blues music, Handy did not create The Blues genre but was one of the first to publish music in The Blues form, thereby taking The Blues from a regional music style (Delta Blues) with a limited audience to a new level of popularity.

Dear Community,
This comes on behalf of our Mother, Lady Bianca, who has recently suffered a sudden medical emergency. While we are relieved to say that she is going one step at a time on her road to recovery, she is presently unable to work and has been forced to cancel many of her performances. For the uninitiated and loyal fans alike, the legendary Lady Bianca is a Gospel and R&B Vocalist/Pianist, Artist, Producer, and celebrated fixture of the Bay Area Blues scene, widely known as the “Queen of the Blues and Gospel”. --Sons, Oshmin and Beethovan
