Spencer Penfield I capture couples in love through candid, honest, emotive imagery. To capture and preserve as many of these celebrations as possible is my heart's intent.

"Let us come alive to the splendor that is all around us, and see the beauty in ordinary things." {Thomas Merton}

Ever since I heard this quote on some lovely day, it has been my motto and mission statement- not just from behind a camera, but also just in my day-to-day living. To me, a photo is comprised of little unique details that add up to a grand, beautiful proclamation of joy and celebrati

Mary & Greg are the prime example of living out your day free of distractions or expectations; to simply let love set the pace, and letting everything else fall in line.

Above all else, they wanted to submerge into their gratefulness for the day and not take a single second/hug/conversation/group photo for granted.

Guests weren't just guests; they were treasured witnesses and participants.

Wealthy, wealthy people they are indeed.

Year ___ of ??? of photographing my dear friends + and their crew. Getting to watch these kiddos grow more and more into themselves is such a blast, even moreso now that they're just down the street.

Something a little different this year- the kids got to have a roll of film for themselves to shoot on one of my point-and-shoot's throughout the evening; a way to have them participate, but mainly to get a look at and celebrate what their eye sees. The majority of color film included here, plus the black and white on the first slide) was shot by them (and I legit gasped at how amazing some of them turned out. Looks like I could be out of a job soon)

Carolyn & Matt at home, earlier this year.

3 years of marriage, and celebrating during their baby month as well!

Watching couples' lives and families grow is such a wonderful added bonus to this job that I'm so very grateful for 🖤

Amy & Zeke met and fell in love during their time at MSU, and recently had the opportunity to travel back from their home in China; I was so honored when they asked me to join them on their visit back to their old stomping grounds.
Their wedding in Shangahi is set to be absolutely wonderful this winter; but I bet having photos where it all began, in a city you miss dearly, means the absolute world.

About Me

Humans fascinate me. Furthermore, humans interacting with other humans fascinate me. Our relationships with one another are a deep and vital component to the human experience, and I believe those relationships should be of the utmost importance, both to photograph, and to celebrate in general. I strive to capture people as organically as possible, all of the perks and quirks that make us all so unique. Furthermore, I strive to capture your wedding story as it truly happens, even some things that you may not have even noticed. I believe photos are not just meant to be looked at; they're moments to be experienced, and re-experienced. 50 years from now I want your photos to flood you with the same emotion that they did when you first saw them. I also absolutely love to travel, and am more than down to go to wherever you need me!

This isn't just a job for me; it's a passion I want to get better at every day.

Apart from taking photos, a little more about me: I was born and raised in Grand Ledge, Michigan, and after bouncing around a bit after college I finally settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I currently reside. I love being outdoors under any circumstance, whether that's snowboarding, a day hike, or a stroll around Lake Michigan. I love authentic menswear, dad jokes, and fires in the fireplace. I own a 1976 Honda CB 550 cafe racer motocycle, and it's my absolute pride and joy. My first job was at Chipotle during high school, and I still passionately pledge allegiance to their delicious burritos. I grew up playing soccer since I was 5, and will gladly scream my face off at the TV during the World Cup. My favorite musical artists I always return to are Kings of Leon, The National, and Noah Gundersen.
