Time to wrap up the wedding projects! So much going on with being a mom and showing up in the sewing room. Kids always come first before my work, but when the moment is free, I want my kids to see me working with my hands and being a producer, not a consumer. I remember my mother always doing something with her hands, but she was always there for us too. I want the same thing for my kids. 🤍 It also keeps us out of trouble to have some kind of goal, even if it’s small. 😉

The Tailorette’s Story

Hello! My name is Cassaundra, also known as, The Tailorette. How that name came to be was a process and it all started in those mid-teen years.

During my early High School days, I spent the majority of my free time learning how to sew. It was a way to create without limitations, but not a job. On the other hand, my sister wanted to make extra money so she decided to sew a Jane Austen dress to sell on Etsy. The first dress was snatched up in an instant, and after that, many inquiries started flooding in. However, she did not enjoy the art of sewing, so I hopped on board to help out. Eventually, she handed the business to me since I enjoyed the sewing work and had a motivation to improve the aesthetics of the dresses. This is when the regency saree dress came into being.

At the time, the shop was named “Garland of Grace”. It was a side job and something I did for fun while making a small profit. I decided to slowly grow to a point where it would a full-time job. That is when “The Tailorette” was born. Before I had a reputation, I wanted to change it to something that represented me as the owner. My parents gave me a large room in the house to have as my own undisturbed space to focus. On the side I did a lot of bridal and formal alterations to carry me through as well. Eventually, orders and alterations continued to come through, but my home sewing machine started to burn out with the heavy duty work. That is when I purchased my first industrial Juki. This was a milestone because I could finish projects faster and more efficiently without hiccups.

It’s been a long road and this business has grown along with me as a person. Many thanks to my family who are my biggest supporters in rooting for me along the way and giving me honest criticism over the years. I am so excited to continue improving to maintain quality unique costumes for my customers!
