I’ve been to a lot of wine tastings, but night I attended my first-ever OYSTER tasting (thank you 🤍) with + led by of 🦪🌊

I had such a great time learning about one of my favorite foods + the project

A few of my favorite facts:
• oysters typically take 1-2 years to grow
• the colder the water is, the longer it takes ... The Pebble Beach oysters (pic 3) took 5-7 years!
• one oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water/day
• everything that’s needed for an oyster to grow, is on the shell of an oyster - why shell recycling is so important!
• serves grapefruit as an accoutrement as it has a lower acidity than lemon

JME is me (Julia Marie Esposito) and I love food, wine and events! I’m a grad with a lifelong passion for all things food.

Consuming so much food content on social media, I felt like I was missing something. I wanted more than the beautiful food photos - I wanted stories. Now, I’m on a mission to share the stories of people in the food world with you.

Wrapping up my 5th interview, it’s been eye-opening and inspiring to hear the WHY and the HOW behind the businesses I walk by living here in New York City. Behind every door (or market stand) is a story - and I’m grateful to be able to share them with you!

is one of my NYC go-tos. My favorite way to order is getting a little bit of everything and sharing. One of the non-negotiable items is the Labneh, which changes seasonally and is always served with fresh warm pita. This one had rose petals and honey, perfect for spring!

ILIS - one of the more interesting dinners I’ve had in the city. Not sure I can attempt to recall the exact dish descriptions … (probably should have taken notes!) but here’s a few highlights of what we ate.

Fluke served raw over ice with citrus, later sent back to us after being grilled. A delicious Peking duck, the feet used as kebabs to hold a meatball of sorts. Clam “flasks” which served as a vessel for a bloody-mary-like tomato broth inside. Oysters with pineapple. Fresh tuna in a taco-like format served alongside thinly sliced 6-mo old tuna with a truffle oil. Cocktails and wine were spot on too! Thank you

The tangy and sweet pineapple mustarda was the ideal accompaniment to the fried zeppole and salty thinly-sliced hams. The tortellini were pillowy. The cucumbers “New Yorkese” were crisp and refreshing. Even the cipollini onions on the steak had me savoring every bite. But the duck … the duck was simply the best.

Everything bagel smoked salmon tart for brunch this morning! Puff pastry, whipped cream cheese, smoked salmon, pickled onions, capers, lemon. Sooo easy to make + so delicious 🥯
