Personal vows are *easily* my favourite part of any ceremony. The moment the couple makes their public declaration of love to each other. Their opportunity to stand in front of their closest family and friends and say “it’s you. For all these reasons and more, it’s you”.

I’ll guide you through each step of the vow writing process. I’ll hold your hand through sentence structure struggles (yikes, try saying that quickly!) and word choice woes. I’ll workshop ideas, help you with flow, and - when you’re happy with them - I’ll even print them onto pretty vow cards to present to you at the exact moment in the ceremony.

What I won’t do, is condone using Chat GPT to write them for you.

Yes - it’s happened. Quite a bit lately.
Yes - I can tell. Quite easily really.

I know it’s not always easy to articulate how much someone means to you and how much you love them. All I ask is that you let me help you try - cos a machine is just never going to do your love justice, and your future spouse deserves better. Your love is unique - don’t you think your personal vows should be too?

When I first started this business nearly 6 years ago, marriage equality was just a pipe dream. My heart would ache at being forced to read the legal wording of the ceremony that was so exclusionary.

Yesterday, in two electric ceremonies on opposite sides of the city, the Married by Allegra dream team married two sets of lovers in the most incredible, loving, inclusive and romantic ceremonies.

If you’d told me 5 years ago that I’d have the most amazing side chick in , and that we’d be marrying two same s*x couples in one day, I’d have just about fainted with disbelief. How my heart overflows with joy!

Love is love, and is truly is all around 🥰

💕❣️ I’M JUST A GIRL …❣️💕

… standing in front of a couple, begging them for some shade.

Let me set the scene. Black tie wedding. Zero chance of rain fall. Temps predicted to hit 35°+. The blokes are dusting off their tuxes after the last big wedding, grateful their significant others reminded them to get it dry cleaned after Petey brought that full glass of red wine onto the raging dance floor. The gals are snipping tags off the latest addition to their wedding wardrobes - a glorious silk number from Aje that cost more than she probably really wants to think about. Hair is styled, makeup is perfected - they’re ready to go.

Leaving the air conditioned sanctuary where they’ve primped and preened and put in a s**tload of effort into looking gawjus for your special day, they walk straight into the seventh circle of hell. A wall of hot air smacks them in the face. No about of Rexona Advanced Protection or Urban Decay Setting Spray is going to help this - it’s hot as balls and the sweat instantly starts pumping.

“It’s ok” they assure each other; “no one in their right mind would want to get married in this heat, the ceremony will be inside”.

Wrong. Oh how very wrong they are.

You see, there’s a funny phenomena that happens to couples thinking about weather on their wedding day. The ceremony is “only 30 minutes” they say, it won’t matter if the weather is a bit s**t. Won’t matter if there’s no shade and it’s pushing 40 degrees. It’s only a little while and we’ll be out of the sun and rehydrated in no time.

Except, you won’t be. Let’s face it - things always run late. All of a sudden your guests have been standing around in the heat for 25minutes before the ceremony has even started. Then they sweat through the I Do’s, and once the smooching is done they swelter waiting for the group shot to be taken. They’re miserable. Then they rehydrate on champagne, peak too early and spew just after speeches. Things get messy.

Sarah and Jarrod here sorted market umbrellas for their ceremony - I ended up with horrific sunstroke and Sarah got so burnt her ENTIRE SCALP PEELED!!!

All this to say - weddings in extreme heat suck almost as much as torrential rain.

❣️💕 H U S B A N D 💕❣️

Our original wedding date is coming up.

When we got engaged at Christmas 2021, we figured 18 months was plenty of time to fall pregnant, have our baby, plan our wedding and feel ready to partayyy with our people.

But as the months went by and our fertility struggles increasingly put pressure on our plans, we decided it was better to push back the wedding and focus instead on starting our family. Our IVF journey was starting to threaten my flower budget, and I just really couldn’t face compromising on blooms 😅

We were happy with our decision and even happier when our first IVF round was a success, but all of a sudden I started feeling very strongly that I wanted us to be married before our little man arrived earth-side. Thus the mini-wedding idea was born, with the big party still slated for June 2024.

The big wedding at is now less than a year away, the Irish contingent are booking flights, we are legally married and more in love than ever, and we went ahead and made ourselves the most adorable page boy ever.

This is just your little reminder that life happens and plans change. Your wedding is a celebration of your love and shared life, and the choices you make should fit with the greater tapestry of your plans and goals.

Go with the flow - you never know, you might just end up getting to celebrate your love more than once! 🥰

Yesterday marked 50 years of civil celebrants hitching lovers in Australia!

Feels like 50 years since took this gorgeous photo of me and my bump at Erin and Luke’s stunning wedding at . 11 weeks into motherhood, I neither feel nor look even remotely this glam!

Here’s to couples getting hitched exactly how and where they want, with the help of a civil celebrant, for decades more!

This is my sister . In a week from today, under the Tuscan sun, she will marry the love of her life, George.

A wedding 8 years in the making; it was one of the most thrilling moments of my life when she asked me to be her Maid of Honour and to officiate (albeit obvs not legally) their ceremony.

I won’t be there.

I’ll be at home; 16,468km away with my IVF miracle in my arms and a broken heart full to the brim with love.

While it’s inconceivable to me that I won’t be able to do for my sister what I have done for so many other brides, and while I won’t be able to watch their faces as they hear the words I have written for them; I am comforted by the sweet smell of my newborn son’s little head, and the knowledge that will be there capturing every moment.

The universe is both miraculous and baffling - to give with one hand everything we wanted and longed for, and for that to simultaneously mean missing out on one of the most important events in our family’s life. Bittersweet doesn’t really begin to cover it.

So, if you need me next Friday - I’ll be dressed to the nines at a fancy hotel - in Sydney - pretending to be on the Italian dance floor.

After all - when life hands you lemons, you’re obliged to make limoncello right?!

Two years ago today, I walked into the and fell in love with this man at first sight.

730 days later, we’re married and (not at all patiently) awaiting the birth of our first baby.
