Personal vows are *easily* my favourite part of any ceremony. The moment the couple makes their public declaration of love to each other. Their opportunity to stand in front of their closest family and friends and say “it’s you. For all these reasons and more, it’s you”.

I’ll guide you through each step of the vow writing process. I’ll hold your hand through sentence structure struggles (yikes, try saying that quickly!) and word choice woes. I’ll workshop ideas, help you with flow, and - when you’re happy with them - I’ll even print them onto pretty vow cards to present to you at the exact moment in the ceremony.

What I won’t do, is condone using Chat GPT to write them for you.

Yes - it’s happened. Quite a bit lately.
Yes - I can tell. Quite easily really.

I know it’s not always easy to articulate how much someone means to you and how much you love them. All I ask is that you let me help you try - cos a machine is just never going to do your love justice, and your future spouse deserves better. Your love is unique - don’t you think your personal vows should be too?

When I first started this business nearly 6 years ago, marriage equality was just a pipe dream. My heart would ache at being forced to read the legal wording of the ceremony that was so exclusionary.

Yesterday, in two electric ceremonies on opposite sides of the city, the Married by Allegra dream team married two sets of lovers in the most incredible, loving, inclusive and romantic ceremonies.

If you’d told me 5 years ago that I’d have the most amazing side chick in , and that we’d be marrying two same s*x couples in one day, I’d have just about fainted with disbelief. How my heart overflows with joy!

Love is love, and is truly is all around 🥰

💕❣️ I’M JUST A GIRL …❣️💕

… standing in front of a couple, begging them for some shade.

Let me set the scene. Black tie wedding. Zero chance of rain fall. Temps predicted to hit 35°+. The blokes are dusting off their tuxes after the last big wedding, grateful their significant others reminded them to get it dry cleaned after Petey brought that full glass of red wine onto the raging dance floor. The gals are snipping tags off the latest addition to their wedding wardrobes - a glorious silk number from Aje that cost more than she probably really wants to think about. Hair is styled, makeup is perfected - they’re ready to go.

Leaving the air conditioned sanctuary where they’ve primped and preened and put in a s**tload of effort into looking gawjus for your special day, they walk straight into the seventh circle of hell. A wall of hot air smacks them in the face. No about of Rexona Advanced Protection or Urban Decay Setting Spray is going to help this - it’s hot as balls and the sweat instantly starts pumping.

“It’s ok” they assure each other; “no one in their right mind would want to get married in this heat, the ceremony will be inside”.

Wrong. Oh how very wrong they are.

You see, there’s a funny phenomena that happens to couples thinking about weather on their wedding day. The ceremony is “only 30 minutes” they say, it won’t matter if the weather is a bit s**t. Won’t matter if there’s no shade and it’s pushing 40 degrees. It’s only a little while and we’ll be out of the sun and rehydrated in no time.

Except, you won’t be. Let’s face it - things always run late. All of a sudden your guests have been standing around in the heat for 25minutes before the ceremony has even started. Then they sweat through the I Do’s, and once the smooching is done they swelter waiting for the group shot to be taken. They’re miserable. Then they rehydrate on champagne, peak too early and spew just after speeches. Things get messy.

Sarah and Jarrod here sorted market umbrellas for their ceremony - I ended up with horrific sunstroke and Sarah got so burnt her ENTIRE SCALP PEELED!!!

All this to say - weddings in extreme heat suck almost as much as torrential rain.

❣️💕 H U S B A N D 💕❣️

Our original wedding date is coming up.

When we got engaged at Christmas 2021, we figured 18 months was plenty of time to fall pregnant, have our baby, plan our wedding and feel ready to partayyy with our people.

But as the months went by and our fertility struggles increasingly put pressure on our plans, we decided it was better to push back the wedding and focus instead on starting our family. Our IVF journey was starting to threaten my flower budget, and I just really couldn’t face compromising on blooms 😅

We were happy with our decision and even happier when our first IVF round was a success, but all of a sudden I started feeling very strongly that I wanted us to be married before our little man arrived earth-side. Thus the mini-wedding idea was born, with the big party still slated for June 2024.

The big wedding at is now less than a year away, the Irish contingent are booking flights, we are legally married and more in love than ever, and we went ahead and made ourselves the most adorable page boy ever.

This is just your little reminder that life happens and plans change. Your wedding is a celebration of your love and shared life, and the choices you make should fit with the greater tapestry of your plans and goals.

Go with the flow - you never know, you might just end up getting to celebrate your love more than once! 🥰

Yesterday marked 50 years of civil celebrants hitching lovers in Australia!

Feels like 50 years since took this gorgeous photo of me and my bump at Erin and Luke’s stunning wedding at . 11 weeks into motherhood, I neither feel nor look even remotely this glam!

This is my sister . In a week from today, under the Tuscan sun, she will marry the love of her life, George.

A wedding 8 years in the making; it was one of the most thrilling moments of my life when she asked me to be her Maid of Honour and to officiate (albeit obvs not legally) their ceremony.

I won’t be there.

I’ll be at home; 16,468km away with my IVF miracle in my arms and a broken heart full to the brim with love.

While it’s inconceivable to me that I won’t be able to do for my sister what I have done for so many other brides, and while I won’t be able to watch their faces as they hear the words I have written for them; I am comforted by the sweet smell of my newborn son’s little head, and the knowledge that will be there capturing every moment.

The universe is both miraculous and baffling - to give with one hand everything we wanted and longed for, and for that to simultaneously mean missing out on one of the most important events in our family’s life. Bittersweet doesn’t really begin to cover it.

So, if you need me next Friday - I’ll be dressed to the nines at a fancy hotel - in Sydney - pretending to be on the Italian dance floor.

After all - when life hands you lemons, you’re obliged to make limoncello right?!

A follower asked me recently if Dave was my assistant (😅). She’d seen him on my stories at weddings and figured he must be working for me.

Truth is - since I met Dave, he’s been invited by pretty much every one of my couples to be a guest at their wedding. He’s the ideal wedding guest - looks HOT in a suit, chats to anyone, loves a beer and you’d best believe the man has moves! He’s the DF starter, the grandma-charmer, the best hype guy in the room, and the best PA stand assembler on the planet.

He’s definitely not on the payroll, but I feel pretty bloody chuffed that he’s my plus one for life 🥰

2022 was the most extraordinary, challenging, intense, beautiful, rewarding, exhausting, miraculous year yet.

More than 100 couples married, a wedding of my own, health scares and fertility struggles, a new house and new life growing inside me.

I face 2023 with a heart full of love, and a belly full of fire to keep doing what brings me joy.

Thank you for being along for the ride; my joy shared is joy multiplied and your love and support means the whole world.

2023; your predecessor will be a hard one to beat. But something tells me you’ve got it made 🥰

As the wedding season winds down for the first half of 2021, I can’t help but reflect on what a bloody lucky gal I am.

Business is booming, the honeys are gettin hitched, and every day I wake up with a big cheesy grin on my face cos I have the best job in the world.

The next few months are slower on the wedding-front, but huge on the dream-dreaming and plan-planning front. It’s a time to recuperate, recharge and relaaaaax baby!

Or, as they shall henceforth forever be known - Pizza Boy and Miss Playing it Cool.

You see, in the thoroughly modern way of things, James and Kirsty met on tinder back in 2014. James’ profile included the warning “if you don’t like pizza, this isn’t going to work”.

Kirsty did like pizza. Very much in fact. She also liked James’ face. She wondered though what James thought of prawns 🍤 on pizza and so asked him that very question.

James was confident with his considered reply, pressed send on his message [“they have their place, if done well”] and kicked back to wait for the inevitable swoon from Kirsty.

James waited. And waited. He waited SIX LONG WEEKS until Kirsty was back online and, not missing a beat, she picked right back up where he’d left off.

It took them only a week of chatting before James crashed Kirsty’s work drinks on a Friday night at and they’ve been pretty much inseparable ever since (except for that Saturday night, when Kirsty had made plans to play a Harry Potter board game with her mates. Lol).

Today, in the extraordinary , James and Kirsty pledged their lives - and all future pizzas - to each other. Not before they had a thumb war 👍🏻 to determine who read their personal vows first though!!!

It was heaven, only missing a few mates stuck in Melbs and a pizza or two.

Every rom-com movie writer in history would swoon at the events that brought Andrew and Laura together. Picture this; Laura is the studious brunette beauty dedicating herself to her IT/international studies degree. Andrew is the lazy but lovable jock who turns up two weeks late to the IT course where he’d meet the love of his life. The whole course revolved around a group project, and Laura wasn’t having a bar of this (admittedly terribly handsome) slacker swooping in weeks late to cruise through the project while she did all the work. No-sirey-bob!

Andrew was utterly dumbstruck by Laura’s beauty, so makes it his mission to complete the project (practically solo) to show her just how dedicated he can be.

The plot worked, and 8 years later in the most spectacular location, in the freeeeeeeeezing cold, Andrew and Laura sealed the deal; officially becoming Mr and Mrs Beltran-Ward (SWOON!)

I then emceed their party, and (as is the most serious occupational hazard of my job) fell desperately in love with them and their families. It was pure joy.

1 month out from our wedding we didn't have a celebrant and I instantly contacted her and she was nothing but our wedding fairy godmother ever since.

She was so organised, prompt and quick to respond. She just clicked with us instantly, got our vibe and ran with it.

The ceremony was more then I could have dreamed of, the perfect amount of laughter and sentiment. EVERYONE commented on how much our ceremony was just 'us' and how well Allegra took both of our personalities and wishes and put her own spin on them.

She went above and beyond her role, fluffing my dress, calming my husband and acknowledging our families.

The only thing I regret is not contacting her earlier so we could have more Allegra sparkle in out lives through organising dates, texts and drinks. We simply adore her, shes now our family!

When Nicole first clapped eyes on someone she knew instinctively was going to play a huge part in her life, she was instantly hooked. How could she not be?! Those deep brown eyes... the luscious brown hair... the cute nose... the ferociously wagging tail...

Never mind his human-owner, Nicole was snookered by Oskah, Ayden’s furry mate.

When the two humans do get chatting, Nicole chucks Ayden a diversionary fake-name and assumes that’ll be the end of the flirtation. Ahhhhh but then Oskah and his full-body wiggles gave her enough of an incentive to give Ayden her real number when he asked at the end of the night, and when he turned up at her work place the next day with not one, but THREE pups in tow - she knew she’d made the right call.

Thus began the most “casual” relationship of all time. Including casually meeting each other’s families and celebrating Christmas together just three weeks after meeting; moving in together mere months after that; and casually getting engaged a few years later. Reeeeeal casual hey?

They cranked up the slightly-more-serious vibes and tied the knot over the weekend, with their fam and best mates cocooning them in love.

It was perfection (but super casual dw).

Wedding rehearsals do more damage than good. THERE! I said it!!! The over-thinking and over-engineering of the "start walking at 0.025secs into the song" crap means that couples usually psyche both themselves (and their support team) out completely before the moment has even arrived.⁣

I blame Hollywood for our communal infatuation with the concept of a wedding rehearsal. Sounds like something you can't do without - 𝘏𝘖𝘞 𝘞𝘐𝘓𝘓 𝘗𝘌𝘖𝘗𝘓𝘌 𝘒𝘕𝘖𝘞 𝘞𝘏𝘌𝘙𝘌 𝘛𝘖 𝘚𝘛𝘈𝘕𝘋 𝘍𝘖𝘙 𝘗𝘌𝘛𝘌'𝘚 𝘚𝘈𝘒𝘌?! ⁣

Y'all know how to walk right? And you know I'm not going to let you bu**er anything up mid-ceremony right? You also know I’m a bit of a bossy boots right?! Exactly. ⁣

Despite going to the same school - these two lovebirds didn’t actually get together until two years later when they bumped into each other on the grotty dance floor at .

Brenton knew he’d have to pull out the big guns to wow this stunner, so he raced to the bar, slammed his debit card down and yelled “ONE LEMONADE PLEASE”. Rachael was driving you see, so the fact that he’d bought her a softie, and made sure it was her brand (Schweppes FYI) - made her giddy and this epic romance was born.

Sealed in wind-swept fashion on the foreshore of beautiful Sydney Harbour - miles away from the sticky carpets of the PeachTree 🥰

These days, there aren't many things that are required to turn a party into a wedding. There doesn't need to be a bride. Or a groom. You don't bridesmaids and groomsmen, 120 guests, guest gifts or even a reception at all. Ah, the joys of .

You know what you DO still need though?

A celebrant.

Me, more specifically. Without me, your wedding ain't nuttin' but a partayyyy. A fancy one for sure - but it's not a wedding.

So, why leave the most important decision til last? A good celebrant sets the tone for your celebration, gets your guests pumped up for your party, and MOST importantly - they actually get you legally married.

They're the one who gets you giggling during the ceremony so your incredibly talented photographer can snap gorgeous candid pics of you and your lover while you're tying the knot. The one who positions you perfectly in front of the arbour your flower fairies have crafted for you. The one who will deliver a cracking ceremony so your videographers can get all the juicy lines to lay over the top of their moving-magic.

Underestimate the power of a good celebrant at your peril. Leave it til last, and you'll either miss out on a ceremony goddess/god because someone has snapped them up before you, or you won't have enough budget left to invest in the most important part of the whole day.

Remember - the marrying is why you're there. The rest is just for show.

Man U and Liverpool were supposed to face each other the morning of Mon and Tim’s wedding. They didn’t, which is kind of a blessing, because who knows what what the vibes would have been like if either our Man U loving bride or her Liverpool lover had been battling the ballgame blues.

Mon and Tim have been through a lot since that fateful night at Axe’s 21st when Tim wowed the crowd with a cracking speech. They’ve survived and thrived through all of it, and so when they tied the knot - there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Such an amazing couple, and such an incredible day 🥰🥰🥰

When Ashley booked me to marry her to Andrew over a year ago, neither of us anticipated what would be in store for us.

A wonderful friendship, a podcast () and about 6,759,243 messages later and she and her man are hitched and she and I are more in love than ever.
