Gênero musical eletrônico que tem como principal característica a mistura da bass music mundial com o repertório musical e cultural da Bahia. Como em todo local da diáspora africana, os graves sempre fizeram parte da cultura do povo baiano, sendo assim de forma muito natural e acompanhando o desenvolvimento da bass music mundial o surgimento do gênero musical eletrônico Bahia Bass (nome criado pelo DJ e produtor Mauro Telefunksoul), que, analogamente a diversidade da música popular da Bahia, pode ser analisado a partir de subgêneros, estes de acordo com as principais influências de cada produtor, e rotulado por cada um deles. A utilização de sintetizadores e baterias eletrônicas na música baiana se dá em meados dos anos 80, mas o primeiro suspiro registrado deste novo gênero, ainda não rotulado, se deu no ano 2005, com a faixa “Made in Bahia”, do DJ Patife com o Cortejo Afro, Mariene de Castro e a participação do MC Cleveland Wattkiss, caracterizada pela mistura do drum and bass e percussão de samba-reggae. Entre 2005 e 2009, djs e produtores como Mangaio, Vince, Lord Breu e Mauro Telefunksoul desenvolvem tracks com influências de ritmos baianos para apresentações locais e concursos como Red bull Music academy (fusões de house, dub e candomblé por Lord Breu, arrocha, breaks e grime por Mauro Telefunksoul, samba de roda e outros ritmos regionais com batidas eletrônicas por Mangaio e Vince, dentre outros), mas somente em 2010 o produtor Som Peba faz os seus primeiros uploads do que seria realmente a atual característica do gênero, sendo assim o pioneiro. Dando sequência, e em paralelo a cena eletrônica, em 2010 surge a banda Baiana System, tendo como base a referência de sound system (jamaicano) ligado a guitarra baiana, e em 2012 o MC Calibre faz os primeiros uploads do que ele batizou de Batifun Beat, que mistura as batidas e os graves do Southern Hip Hop americano com batidas de samba reggae e pagode, gravando as suas rimas de rap em cima destes instrumentais. Por volta do final de 2012 os produtores Rafa Dias e Mahal Pita fazem os primeiros uploads do A.MA.SSA e da banda Braunation, circulando entre a cena popular e eletrônica com o que eles mesmos batizaram de Salvador Ghetto Bass, misturando dentre outros ritmos baianos o pagodão, o arrocha e elementos de ijexá. Em 2013, através da parceria entre a British Underground com a Secretaria de Cultura do Estado da Bahia e a Fundação Cultural, e lançado o projeto BASS CULTURE CLASH, promovendo o intercâmbio cultural entre a Bahia e Londres, contando com grandes nomes da cena do bass destes dois locais como protagonistas, e lançando no mesmo ano a coletânea BASS CULTURE BAHIA, tendo na sua lista DJs, produtores e bandas baianas que lidam diretamente com o gênero Bahia Bass como citado neste artigo, ou que insiram a baianidade de qualquer outra forma (seja no sotaque, no dialeto, ou elementos musicais) na sua música grave, como reggae e hip hop. Em 2014, o Selo Braza Music e o DJ e produtor Mauro Telefunksoul (co-curador) lançam a primeira parte da coletânea Bahia Bass, com os produtores Mauro Telefunksoul, Lord Breu, Dabeat e Loro Voodoo, mostrando algumas das principais características do gênero para o Brasil e para o mundo. O lançamento da parte 2, com os produtores A.MA.SSA, Som Peba, Braunation e Mangaio está previsto para o mesmo ano. Também em 2014, logo após o lançamento da primeira parte da coletânea Bahia Bass (Braza Music) o DJ e produtor Lord Breu lança o seu EP Futurafro, tendo como proposta a fusão de samba reggae e ijexá com a Bass music atual, pelo selo canadense Mal Dicen. Em seguida o selo Kafundó Records lança a coletânea Kafundó Vol. 1 - Digital Roots Music from Brazil, com produtores e artistas brasileiros de diversos gêneros dentro do conceito da compilação, e entre eles os principais artistas e produtores baianos que lidam diretamente com o gênero Bahia Bass como citado neste artigo, como Mauro Telefunksoul, Som Peba e A.MA.SSA, somado a outros grandes artistas da cena alternativa local que inserem a baianidade de qualquer outra forma na sua musica grave, fortalecendo o gênero Bahia Bass e alguns dos seus subgêneros, consolidando o mesmo como o mais novo elemento da bass music global, com o seu foco na música e cultura da Bahia.
