From A Seed documentary was inspired by the #3 track from the Black Charlotte album. The track speaks specifically about the footsteps of one of Charlotte NC bravest Civil Rights leaders Dorothy Counts Scoggin and her triumphant March as the first African American student to attend Harding HS. Black Charlotte a poetic celebration of place and folk is available on all major platforms .games
Against the wind
With gravity tugging and
Time unwilling to bend
Enemies at your back
Conquers disgusted with
Your truth
You sir
Became the giant
Kept fatigue at bay
For this day was your’s
Every hour fueling someone’s freedom
Every second
Stating your dedication
And still
Without white flags
And gestures
Dancing when others would have
Long determined defeat
Your audacity is champion
Your character of the richest stones
Indeed you are David
Fighting a bully wearing Goliath’s eyeshadow
They fear everything you love
We marveled at the level you believe
Ode to this day
History forged in your footsteps
This country’s muddy shoes embedded in the White House
Gentlemen will dress you in love savages cannot stomach your grace
Today we see you in gold
Trimmed in everything our ancestors lost
There is a God in your feathers
Holding your wings as
you soar the valley of
the warmongering habit-men
Martin sees you
Malcolm salutes you
faces who never crossed a bigoted bridge will know you as “SIR”
You sing of Selma
Breathe the air of a boycott
The south calls you summer heat
Up north you’re the crisp in a wind chill
Your voice roars of four little girls
Every ounce of the revolutionary 99 hollow points couldn’t silence
You are beyond a 21
Elevated from Senator to the people’s champ
Against the wind
The dark covering the hopeless
A truth seeker cleansing the
Dirty hands of
The dirty dozen
“Soar on brother”
We heard your trumpets tone
The gospel you’ve hand delivered
The uncovering of
masters
ancestors
getting
angry
So soar on Dear Brother
Job Well Done
