The key to a well-seasoned potato salad is adding salt to the water when the potatoes cook. The potatoes will absorb some of the salt, thoroughly seasoning them from the inside out, and making them more flavorful.

My tip if you're planning to make mac and cheese is to save your pasta water. If you choose to not use a roux, your milk- or cream-based cheese sauce may come out a little thin. Add some of the starchy pasta water so your sauce will thicken and come together better.
