Cookie swaps: the original holiday Olympics. 🍪✨

For over a decade, I’ve been heading to what my friends and I jokingly call the ‘Catalina Wine Mixer’ of cookie swaps. It’s no joke, though—judges, prizes, and bragging rights are all on the line, and trust me, the competition is fierce but fun! 🤩

This year, I’m stepping out of the kitchen and into the judge’s chair (because let’s be real—I don’t have a day to bake). Last year, I thought I could whip up a winning batch during a tiny time window, and, well... let’s just say the cookies weren’t the only thing melting down. 🎄💀

But here’s the thing: all the effort, chaos, and laughs inspired me to create digital cookie swap decor! 🎉 From printable signs to funny photo props and of course, a banner, these designs bring a little extra cheer to your swap. I believe creating is fuel for the soul. ✨ But let’s be real—most of us feel like we don’t have the time for creativity. Between work, family, and all the ‘have-tos,’ it’s easy to let making something just for fun fall to the bottom of the list.

Here’s my theory: By creating—whether with our hands, our minds, or both—we actually gain energy for everything else. It’s like a reset button for the brain that makes the grind just a little easier.

This art challenge is my way of proving it to myself. Some days I’m squeezing in 10 minutes; other days, I lose track of time. But every time, I feel a little lighter, a little more focused, and a whole lot more connected to the things that matter.

What started as a fun, quick drawing today turned into 3 hours of being determined to turn it into an angled, brick, seamless pattern—but I got it! It’s these unexpected detours that remind me why I love creating in the first place.

So, here’s today’s first prompt “snail mail and snowflakes” in the drawing challenge. What do you think?

While we’re out preparing for Thanksgiving this weekend, let’s remember Thanksgiving is all about gratitude—and what better way to show it than by caring for our planet? 🌎💚

Here are 10 easy tips for hosting an eco-friendly Thanksgiving:
🌽 Preparation:
1️⃣ Cook just enough—guests often bring extra, so less is more!
2️⃣ Shop local and seasonal for fresh ingredients with less packaging.
3️⃣ Thrift or borrow tableware to reuse existing goods and add charm.
🍂 Decorating:
4️⃣ Use reusable tableware and cloth napkins to ditch disposables.
5️⃣ DIY your decor with printables for a personal, waste-free touch.
6️⃣ Create natural centerpieces using pumpkins, pinecones, or greenery.
7️⃣ Decorate sustainably with biodegradable or reusable materials.

✨ A Shift in Focus: Building for the Long-Term ✨

In September, I made the big decision to stop selling physical decor on my website. It was a hard choice, but it’s given me something invaluable—space. Space to think beyond the next sale or collection. Space to reflect on what I really want for this business in the long run.

I realized that, for the first time, I want the luxury of time. Time to build something meaningful and aligned with my long-term vision.

For the entirety of my business, I’ve been focused on the immediate future. Making new decor to follow the latest trends, rushing a new collection in time for “the biggest shopping day of the year”, haphazardly giving discounts when sales are slow. Etc. etc.

And if that was going to work, it would have worked by now. So if you want a different outcome, you have to take a different approach.

This new approach means letting go of urgency and focusing instead on creativity, quality, and purpose. So Party Your World is getting a big sister. A new brand that encompasses all of my creative endeavors and BIG, long term goals.

As I create this new brand, I’d love your input! First, she needs a name. 🤔 Which I am currently brainstorming, and then I’ll need that feedback!

Attaching your feelings to an outcome you are not in control over will lead to suffering.

I took some time to draw today to clear my mind and it became a type of meditation as I sat in the sun and got in the flow. As I often say, busy hands = quiet mind.

Sci-fi and cacti for the second to last prompt in the drawing challenge.

This is the most I’ve ever consistently drawn in my life and I’m so hooked! I need another challenge for next month please 🙏🏻

I’ve really embraced the sketch part of the process during this challenge. I usually dive right in and hate everything by the end. Taking the time to sketch and plan has really got me falling in love with the end results.

Got some doodly pumpkins in pastels for . I mocked these up as bookmarks because I am trying to bring some with me to craft fair on Sunday.

Also added in the mushrooms and moonlight that I did complete in the time frame but didn’t have time to mock it up because I’m so dang busy and this week.

Once again, I am playing it fast and loose with the prompt for . Skulls and checkers definitely stretched my imagination.

This time, I started drawing in Fresco but saw so many geometric shapes, I moved over to Illustrator. Course, I did a little recolor too. But new to me, I played with textures in Photoshop.

And super new: on slides 5 & 6 I played around in Firefly to make some hyper realistic textures.

Finally, I threw in a lazy journal mockup because I was sick of staring at the screen.

✨ Who is she?✨ I’ve completed 3/3 in the challenge?? And on time? What?!

You know how you hear “repetition is key” but don’t like HEAR hear it? Well, I hear it now!

Three illustrations/designs in a week and I’ve learned so much already while uncovering that I already know a sh*t ton and just needed to put it into action.

For instance, recolor in Illustrator. Know it. Used it. Didn’t realize how much I freaking love it 👩🏻‍🍳🤌🏻💋

🐍This design was completely done in Illustrator because I made the snake skin pattern awhile back when I took a pattern course on Skillshare so I wanted to use it.

And the overall design was inspired by my daughter’s necklace. I saw her wearing it Sunday and knew it was perfect for serpents and sparkles.

Meet bat bow! Or bow bat? Bow-batwoman? Listen all I know is the prompt for was bats & bows and I took it quite literally.

Would you know what it was supposed to be if I didn’t tell you? Probably not. Did I learn like 6 new things while attempting to draw it? Absolutely.

For example, it’s easier to draw the elements in Fresco then make the pattern in Illustrator. And when you’re making a pattern, imagine where it might go. So I mocked up a little glass can cup at the end.

👻 You know what’s really spooky? Putting yourself out there while you try something new.

Which is exactly what I’m doing by joining the drawing challenge. My first drawing challenge ever. When you hang out with the likes of and .ink you can’t help but get inspired to make art.

The prompt was ‘Cowboys and Cobwebs’ so I went with a little ghoul in a pink cowboy hat (which was way harder to draw than I expected)!

Since I’m so used to precise measurements and perfect alignment in graphic design, switching gears into freehand drawing is a real challenge. But I’m making a point to create everyday, even when it feels scary to share.

So here’s to stepping out of your comfort zone in the spirit of growth! 🥂
