The last of the remaining tuber orders (plus the giveaway!) are heading out the door tomorrow! 🤗
I may have a few surplus tubers available once I plant my own. I have only just started. My rototiller needed a replacement tire, which is scheduled to come in Wednesday. I should have paid the extra $40 for expedited shipping because we had great weather last weekend and it would have been the perfect time to plant out. Sunny, dry, breezy in the low 80s. Dahlia tubers will rot in soil that’s too moist and they don’t require water at planting time. So I typically wait to plant out when the soil is fairly dry/workable and when we have several dry days forecasted ahead. Unfortunately, I had set aside this Saturday to plant out, but we are set for rain each day after that. A drizzle won’t harm them, but sitting in too much moisture for days is a recipe for disaster. I think I will just have to wait an extra week. …Or, in the past, I have bought rolls of painter’s plastic and covered the dahlia rows to keep the soil from becoming saturated. (I’m on a slight grade, so it will run off the plastic). I can’t decide if I am impatient enough for that at this point. 🤔
