Mike Rose makes his living performing magic, but 25 years ago, he became addicted to magic history and enjoys both writing and collecting. His first book Joe Karson – Beyond Zombie set him on the road to writing about magic’s past. His second book Maryland’s Ambassador of Magic: Phil Thomas and the Yogi Magic Mart was co-authored with Mark Walker. While researching Phil Thomas, Mike’s interest in Baltimore magic history was sparked. Today he focuses primarily on digging deeper into the magic and magicians of Baltimore’s bygone days.
Kohl & Company performed all over the world with their comedy magic act. They were also a favorite among magicians and frequently “brought down the house” as the closing act at magic conventions. However, the story of Dick Kohlhafer (the Kohl of Kohl & Company) started decades before the success of his popular magic act. As it turns out, Kohlhafer’s brand of physical comedy began at a very early age in a neighborhood bar on Christmas Eve.
