I am so excited for this new season of Overgrowth - this account will stay active as a garden pursuit, focused on perennial research. Meanwhile my floral design event offerings will be under the identity .co this new identity is focused on architectural playful wild design, often serving clients who are planning destination weddings in Michigan. I am so proud of the events we are booking all over the state of Michigan! I can definitely say we're finding our people 🤍

Wait, wait, wait..... GO! If nothing else farming is teaching me patience, patience beyond what I am comfortable with. With such a successful season growing in a hoop last year, scaling back and having realistic expectations for growing in open fields has been.... let's just say, challenging. I dream big, always. It's the follow through & the fear of failure that trips me up. This photo is an example of going for it and failing, not 100% failing, but I'd say around 75%. Instead of picking up the right soil, I used soil I had, soil that held too much water and rotted many of my corms 😳 to say I was devastated is... overkill, I was disappointed. Disappointed that I rushed the process. The tray of ranunculus in this photo are the ones I salvaged, and there is another tray that is looking hopeful. It was an important failure & one I will never do again. Instead of wallowing, i made a solid plan for next year, and already placed my orders to arrive in the fall. Not all is lost.

I don't know how to express what it feels like to share the flowers I've grown. Last year was an incredible first harvest and we are so excited to turn our little side yard into a garden. Read more through our Kiva Link and how you can support us in our second year of growing. Kiva loans provide 0% interest loans to small business, we're inviting you to partner with us as we raise the final 30% of our loan. WHICH MEANS - YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK, as we repay our loan over time. This is support we would not be able to receive otherwise. If you do not have extra funds at this time you can help us by sharing our loan through social media.
We are nearly 70% funded! And full of gratitude. We are so excited to move forward with planting the garden! We are starting the zoning & survey process to assess the largest shed we're able to place in our small city lot. You can read more about the initial garden infrastructure we are looking for support on. Thank you to everyone who has shared & supported us thus far!

This week's update: Walking around the garden yesterday we noticed something has started taste testing the tulip leaves. We will be putting a temporary fence around the tulip patch to keep them safe through the rest of their growth. We are expecting a chilly week which is leaving us more planning time indoors for the garden but also summer weddings! Sweet peas have started to sprout and are under lights. We are are growing some varieties specifically for our summer events including forget me knots, love in a puff & nasturtiums for a very special installation this July and will be starting those this week.
We are so excited to start placing orders for our initial infrastructure!
We are so grateful you have partnered with us in this journey!
Thank you for your lending support, bren & lex

Chlorosis, caused in this case by lack of sunlight. Obsessed with chartreuse at the moment, these naturalized bulbs are a mystery but most likely crocus.
