Dear Frankie, how can I sum this up with a few words? I’ll try my best. So, this past weekend I played for the @chicagohousemusicfestival celebrating 40 years of House Music, to say I was honored to be invited to play as an individual artist is an understatement. I took on the assignment as the perfect opportunity to show what I am capable of doing on my own (as we spoke then this business still thinks I was created and molded out of clay by…never mind 😂). Which then took me to this moment in this picture here as we sat together in Mykonos in 2012 celebrating David’s birthday, our conversation was very much the same as every time I saw you, your words of wisdom, your words of encouragement and the words that truly define who I am today as an artist. We spoke about so many things about this business and what it takes to succeed, your words resonated so deeply and you said one day I’d make you proud! So here it is, and here I am! I play Afro music as it’s my first love because I was born in Cape Verde and the drums speak to my spirit, my label @nulu_music now fifteen years old has been releasing this genre way before it was even a category on the portals, but I am also a house music dancer and lover for it was my gay friends who took me to my first club way back when and it became my church where the music spoke and the dance became my medicine. This moment in this video was last song “Baby Wants To Ride” after a very deep and powerful Afro set paying homage to YOU, to the people of Chicago who showed me so much love and appreciation that I’m still floating on Cloud 9 and the organizers who invited me. The thing about music is that there is a world of different genres to play, to write, to sing and to produce and I am blessed that I can span across the universe of sounds tapping and creating from a free space that no one can identify who or what I am. The perfect example of when God got you and being given an opportunity which I took that sh*t by the horns and created my own! Here’s the thing…life, people and situations will present them selves to give you an opportunity, what YOU do with it is all up to YOU! Thank you @louievega for believing in me and always pushing for me even when the world says “oh but that’s his wife” yes I am but before being a wife I was like every other hungry artist navigating through the world to find myself and I did and then some! @nulu_music is now my fifteen year old child, 100% my vision, my funding, my creation, I sign them contracts and pay them taxes! When the world had no clue to Afro, I did what belonged to my roots, where I come from and the sounds I grew up with being born in Santiago, Cape Verde 🇨🇻 today thank you to the help and skills of @_christian_mantini_ we have reached a new level, thank you Christian. If I collected a dollar for every time I heard “she’s Louie’s wife” I’d be rich but instead I’m rich from twenty five years of dedicated work in life, in love, in family, in joy and in happiness because since I was a little girl I never gave a sh*t what people thought, I did me…always, even if no one was cheering! Today it still rings true, I speak loud and proud, my success, joy and happiness is not based off of followings, social media or fanfare, instead it is based on me living authentically me, no management, no social media hype, no pretending, I live and work from a place of love, doing me while being able to not only give a platform to other artists but paying my bills and investing in other interests….this is living and I am truly grateful and humbled by those who support me, thank you, Anané ❤️ #Ananésworld #GratefulBeyondMeasure
