Stu & His Crew LLC: A Professional DJ Service Support your local DJ: PARTY HARD! PARTY OFTEN! Not content to simply do weddings, Stu began seeking out radio, bar and nightclub work in the mid-1980s.

Stu & His Crew started out in 1979 as a collaboration between aspiring DJ Stu Chisholm and his partner/mentor, Gary Merkel, himself an avid music afficionado, collector and DJ, under the banner of "Gary & Stu." When Gary was forced to retire due to health issues, Stu wanted to continue the personality-driven essense of what the collaboration was known for. Unsure of who, if anyone, he might be wor

king with in the future, Stu took inspiration from various Detroit radio fixtures such as "Purtan's People" and WRIF's "JJ & The Morning Crew" and rebranded his DJ service "Stu & His Crew." Later, to distinguish himself from the sea of amateurs that saturated the market, Stu added "Professional DJ Service" to the legal name. In 1984, Stu interned at Detroit FM rock powerhouse, WRIF, distinguishing himself as "the night intern," sitting-in on the popular freeform show, "The 'Riff Rock Cafe." He also joined the team that was refurbishing the legendary Macomb County AM daytimer, WBRB, originally coming in as air staff and then moving into the engineering team when it was discovered that the station had massive technical issues that delayed its relaunch by nearly a year. Stu prepped the stations Master Control studio, organized the music library and worked in the field to gather the data necessary for FCC certification. Stu also cut the first promos for the station. Alas, a change of management forced Stu to part company with WBRB just before it actually got back on the air. At about the same time, Stu landed a DJ slot at the popular Macomb County hotspot, C.J. Barrymore's, and from there to several stops in the metro and suburban Detroit club scene, including the Landsdowne (a.k.a. Baja Beach Club), The Ritz/Studebaker's/New York, New York, Confetti's/Studebaker's, Liberty Park of America and a long-time run at the infamous Wooly Bully's in Macomb County. Stu still occasionally turns up when "duty calls." The main events of Stu & His Crew have been wedding receptions, and Stu has been instrumental in establishing some of what are now considered "industry standards." Always the innovator, Stu began wearing tuxedos when other DJs still showed up in jeans and tour shirts; Stu incorporated radio-style production into his performances, using samples, sound effects and drops; Stu was one of the area's first DJs to use a computer database for more than just finding music, but to assemble his music into coherent sets; and in 1996, Stu began incorporating the methods of professional movers in order to deliver his entertainment packages to various events by obtaining a ramp and rail equipped moving van, which has since become a symbol of his company. (He's well known for adopting the methods of other professions into his DJ business.) In 2014, Stu & His Crew was absorbed into the SAHC Group, bringing new minds/collaborators into the mix and bundling together all of the various entertainment, production, publishing and educational pursuits that Stu started. With Stu still the anchor of these endeavors, the collaboration has resulted in a total overhaul of the company, now known as Stu & His Crew LLC: A Professional DJ Service, able to deliver more, even higher-quality entertainment than ever before! Those who join this page will be the first to hear about all of the new developments as they continue to happen.

A Rock Staple And A Personal Favorite Of Mine Has Passed....

It is with profound sadness that I pass along this announcement of the passing of Greg Kihn, an iconic figure in the realm of rock music. Greg lost his battle with Alzheimer's disease on 8/13/24 at the age of 75. Known for his magnetic stage presence and unique storytelling that captivated audiences around the globe, he was not merely a musician but a cultural phenomenon whose influence will resonate for generations to come.

Born on 07/10/49 in the vibrant city of Baltimore, Maryland. Greg discovered a passion for music early in life. He burst onto the scene with the release of his self-titled "Greg Kihn," which quickly garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. With a unique songwriting style that blended folk, classic rock, blues and pop, his sound helped define a rich musical legacy in the San Francisco Bay Area scene. Greg rose to worldwide fame in the 1980s and left an indelible mark for generations to come.

Throughout his illustrious career, Greg received a multitude of accolades, awards and recognition, celebrating his artistic contributions and unwavering dedication to his craft. As a pioneer with the legendary Beserkley Records label, Greg helped write the book on revolutionary West Coast Rock and Roll. He toured the world, had hit records and won several awards for his hit songs "Jeopardy," "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)," "Roadrunner," "Remember" and "Lucky." As a former Morning Radio host for KFOX for 17 years, as well as a syndicated night time radio host across the country, Greg related to and captivated his audiences with real world issues and hysterical tales from his Rock Star escapades.

Beyond the world of music and radio, Greg was renowned as a great storyteller and novelist with 6 published novels and a multitude of short stories. He had a unique hobby of breeding rare varieties of praying mantis, and also spent time and raised money for Operation Care and Comfort. His kindness and generosity extended far beyond the stage, as he engaged in initiatives to support that charity and other organizations. Friends and family remember him not just as a Rock Star, but as a warm-hearted individual who brought joy and inspiration to everyone he encountered.

Greg is survived by Jay Arafiles-Kihn (Wife), Ryan Kihn (Son), Alexis Harrington-Kihn (Daughter), Samora Harrington (Son-in-Law), Nate Harrington-Kihn (Grandson), Zuri Harrington-Kihn (Grandson), Laura Otremba (Sister), Lou Otremba Jr. (Brother-in-Law), Larry Otremba (Nephew), Lou Otremba III (Nephew), Matthew Otremba (Nephew). All of whom will forever cherish the memories and moments shared with him. A private memorial celebration of his extraordinary life and legacy will take place with friends and family. A public celebration of life concert for fans and fellow musicians will be announced in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Greg Kihn's name to The Alzheimer's Association to help end Alzheimer's Disease.

R.I.P. Greg. Your music and words are forever etched into my psyche and your star shines bright in the pantheon of Rock & Roll.

RockKIHN Roll Forever!

GREETINGS, FACEBOOK GANG!

Once again, it's time for my disclaimer! Don't say I didn't warn you....

Thank you for being my friend here on Facebook! (And IRL for a handful of ya!) I'm happy to have you on-board. Since some of you may have gotten here by searching my name, rather than other criterion, there's some things y'all need to know. (Especially you newcomers!)

First, this is my PERSONAL page. A lot of stuff gets knocked around here that is personal to me. I talk about DJ stuff, but I also talk a lot about atheism/religion, fi****ms (in a POSITIVE way), geeky sci-fi and nerdy stuff, goth, s*x, politricks, writing, horror, ALL THINGS STAR TREK...you get the idea. So...

If you're here as a DJ colleague and only want to hear about music, gear and other cool DJ stuff, you might want to search for my two DJ biz pages:
* Stu & His Crew LLC, and
* The Complete Disc Jockey (book), a working group.

The first is all about my DJ service, and I'm not a post bomber, so interruptions to your feed will be infrequent. Follow without fear! The second is a continuation of my book by the same name. (Hopefully you own a copy?) Down the road, I'm planning on a 2nd Edition. All of the ideas and suggestions here will guide me.

If you are into fi****ms, CCW and all things guns and want to skip all the other stuff, then go to my pages:
* Knowing Guns (book), a working group based on my book of the same name. As with my DJ book, I'm planning on either a 2nd Edition OR a Volume 2. Be a contributor!
* The Godless Gunnies, Detroit - my shooting group for atheists/agnostics, and our sister page:
* The Godless Gunnies, for those who might be beyond the Southeast Michigan area.
You can also find me on many 2A forums, groups and pages.

If you're one of my Massage students or colleagues and don't care for all of the above, then flee in terror(!) and head to this page:
* A Touch of Reason Therapeutic Massage.
NOTE: Irene's Myomassology Institute offers the absolute BEST massage training available anywhere! If you're seriously interested in a massage career, or just a great place to get a decent massage at a great price, then check 'em out!

For an overview of ALL of my business ventures, sign up on my main hub:
* The SAHC Group.

And, of course, please be sure to catch all of my articles on everything: my personal blog, "Stu's Musings" can be found on LiveJournal, and I also write on Medium. (The latter sometimes throws a paywall in your face. It's five measly bucks. Well worth it, 'cause there's writers there even more interesting than ME, if you can believe it!)

More rarely, I contribute articles on fi****ms to Ammoland.com and MikeTheGunGuy.com. Just my archived stuff is worth the scrolling, if I do say so myself. (And I do!)

Lastly, yes, it's true: I do product reviews for Amazon. Look me up! Mine will be the most honest reviews you'll ever read! (NOTE: Merchants aren't allowed to contact me here. Please use the contact utility on Amazon.)

So make those changes OR hang out and hang on - it can be a wild n' bumpy ride here! Be sure to not only "like" but FOLLOW if you really want all the skinny on the topics I cover. Again, I'll never abuse your feed by flooding it. Promise!

My thanks to you all!

Via DJ Rachel Lynch who spells it out exactly as it is!

I’ve been asked countless times what my price is for a "relaxed outdoor wedding."

"You know, nothing fancy."
"We don't need all the bells and whistles."
"It's a laidback event."
"It's just a party in the backyard."
“It’s only a short ceremony outside.”
“We are keeping things basic.”

Comments that imply that by removing the formal glitz and glam of a traditional wedding venue somehow means there is less responsibility and workload, when this could not be further from reality.

DJs work MUCH harder to make great things happen in spaces like your backyard, state parks, beaches, or anything that doesn't have a real roof, walls, ramps/elevators, and air conditioning.

I don’t just need to DJ. I have the extra burden of:

Sun glare.
Hot/cold temperatures.
Uneven surfaces.
Anything mother nature has to offer, from rogue wasp nests to changing weather conditions.
Extra cleaning due to dirt, sand, pollen, and dust.
Power source considerations.
Dialing mics in to work in windy conditions.
Covering multiple areas in challenging layouts.
Sharing tight spaces with other vendors.
Dragging gear over gravel, mulch, or grass.
No elevators. No ramps. No convenient walkways.
Having condensation on equipment once the temperature drops at night.
Cleaning up in the dark.
Noise complaint considerations.
Etc.

Professionally navigating the unpredictability of being outside demands additional preparation, effort, expertise, great technology, and adaptability. When you hear the price, under stand you’re not paying for a DJ in your backyard, your paying for someone to skillfully to make the impossible, seem effortless.

Really good time in Pontiac yesterday. Congratulations Mike & Rebecca! Thank you for making me a part of your day!
