Notice the snowman. We didn't have cotton balls when we started this craft. So we asked the kids, "Where in the world did those come from? He's really cute!" Um: "OH! We pulled them off of all the little santa hat ornaments around the office!" 😳

ANYWAY. If you'd like a super easy craft that doesn't require sugar, we put together a how to make cardboard gingerbread houses out of Amazon boxes for you. Just know it may end up with other things that don't belong on it, too. Embrace it.

The quick and dirty how-to:

Flip an Amazon box inside out (hello, perfect gingerbread color!)
Paint edges white for "frosting"
Add cotton balls for snow (too soon, too soon)
Decorate with painted pasta "candies"
Let kids go wild with pipe cleaners, magazine cutouts, and popsicle sticks

Bonus: Stick some LED lights inside for extra magic.

Part 2 of raising a tiny skeptic. My baking-obsessed 11-year-old daughter just got this text from her grandma:

"Ummm French toast but made with banana bread for Christmas morning...
Just gonna leave this here...
I'll see myself out."

She forwarded it to me, baffled: "Mom, what does this mean? Is this how Gramma normally texts??"

For context, my mom's texts are playful and performative—she's the OG whimsical in our family.

My daughter, on the other hand, prefers her chaos untangled. She doesn't reject magic; she just insists it comes with... instructions. (remember, this is the same girl who needed that full rundown of the tooth fairy's tooth disposal system.)

I translated: "Grandma's excited about banana bread French toast and thinks the idea is self-explanatory...but she wanted to make it fun."

Hazel's response? A text version of a shrug and an eye roll: "Okayyy. Thx."

Sometimes I wonder if she's not rejecting magic, she's just more Mary Poppins than fairy godmother. After all, Mary Poppins measured her magic by the spoonful.

So here she is, trying to keep the family grounded when we're floating up with the bubbles to touch the ceiling. Thx, Haze.

You know how they say your children will grow up to be the opposite of you? I’ve always wondered what the opposite of a faerie mama might be.

My daughter: "Mom, because you are a fairy I have a question. What do you do with the teeth when you're a tooth fairy?"

Me: "Honestly, when I do the tooth fairy job, I don’t remember anything. It’s like I black out. Sorry!"

My daughter: *sighs* "What even is the POINT of the tooth fairy? Like, if she just throws the teeth away, I could do that MYSELF."

Clearly, the opposite of a faerie, is a...skeptic. 😅

Did you know this is the busiest party weekend of the year? 🎉 With school back in session, October birthdays, Diwali, and Halloween all happening at once, it feels like everyone is in full-on party mode. Even Beyoncé’s performing tonight—so yeah, it’s official!

This week alone, we’re heading to 97 parties. Wild, right? We’re kicking things off with an event that’s been 6 months in the making; 20 of our performers are coming from all over California to make it happen, and we couldn’t be more excited (or honored) to be part of something so special.

Especially after the challenges we’ve faced over the last four years, this means everything to us. We’re beyond grateful to have been invited into so many of your happy memories, and to still be here, celebrating with you. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

For years I refused to use the word 'entertainer'. This picture made me think hard about that call.

I thought I had settled on the word 'performer',(because we aren't Vegas level magicians, but we can absolutely throw a room into laughter doing magic), but looking at this photo is making me reconsider it.

The thing is, the two performers in this photo aren't actually performing in it. When they are ACTUALLY performing is when the costume comes off and they go back to their 'grown-up jobs'.

One is an attorney who fights to protect children every day. She covers up the side of her that children instantly connect with to perform in the courtroom to keep them safe.

The other is a soon-to-be nurse. She covers the child whisperer part of her to perform her job of helping patients heal.

Being around these people who are so naturally incredible with children and getting to see their inner kid shine is my favorite part of running this company. It's truly a magical sight.

It's almost, dare I say, 'entertaining' 😎.
