Who knew? We left our anemones in the ground last year and are amazed to be rewarded with long beautiful stems in February- even though we are just growing them outside with a frost cover in a low tunnel. I love It when a less laborious act is rewarded!

I missed the last five weeks of the flower season… Other priorities kept me elsewhere, but I was delighted to discover one last Romance dahlia waiting for me. 🧡

We still have a lot of planting and cleaning up to catch up on over the next few weeks before we can truly put the flower beds to rest for the season. 🌷

The flowers turn electric with cooling temperatures, zinnias, dahlias, and celosia that produced subdued peaches and mauves glow with vibrant yellow undertones. Just a few more short weeks and the flowering season will be done….

I love learning new things. Growing and working with flowers gives seemingly endless opportunities to learn how to grow new plants, play with color and texture, and incorporate flowers into food, soap, and textiles.

This is our first season growing Sweet Annie (artemisia) and I am really enjoying trying different projects with this amazing plant whose scent always reminds me to take a calming breath. Friends have also told me about its medicinal properties…

What are your favorite things to do with Sweet Annie?

Buds are forming on all the dahlia plants… Very soon we should see the arrival of more of these architectural blooms. This variety is called Brown Sugar, and is new to our farm this season. Hopefully we’ll have some other gorgeous new varieties to share with you in the near future!

We are still waiting for our dahlias to arrive… (We planted late and they have been stressed by the drought.) But in the meantime, we enjoy the beauty we have!

I don’t know if I could ever tire of this coral peony...! Another favorite from last year...

A special bouquet for a celebration... I keep thinking the season is over, but there are still some gorgeous treasures hiding out in the field. 💕

So I haven’t quite kept up with my commitment to keep the scabiosas deadheaded, although we’ve done a pretty good job up until two weeks ago. I am still amazed at how these 25 plants just keep producing so many flowers! Definitely worth fall planting! And, they also meet our new new criteria for fall planting, they are slug resistant!
