I am so critical of low light and shadows in my photos, aren't we all?
But i have a real excuse. Besides being self taught, The main Camera i used for years, the Canon 550d (which i still love, for being one of the best first DSLR models, which were relatively new for the film community to use in 2010, but which boasted the ability for an amateur low budget filmmaker to swap lenses(i had a few, 10mm fish eye, 50mm, 18-135mm, 300mm) doesn't even compare to the average [2024] phone camera in hi res megabytes or low light quality.
Compare the statistics of my old equipment to most recent phones:

Canon Rebel T2i 550D: used 2010- 2020
18 megapixels

Sony A7ii : used 2019-2020
24.2 megapixels

S23 Smart phone: 2024
200 megapixels

https://www.change.org/p/mandate-city-level-development-of-self-sufficient-emergency-backup-systems

As a concerned citizen, I am deeply troubled by our reliance on the global supply chain for basic necessities. This dependence not only exposes us to potential contamination and disease (as witnessed during the COVID-19 outbreak) but also supports unethical labor practices in countries where modern slavery is prevalent. Our current system fails to protect us during emergencies such as disease outbreaks or blackouts, leaving many vulnerable and without access to essential resources like water, air, food, clothing, and shelter.

To address this issue, we must require our city to research, develop and maintain self-sufficient backup systems(1,2) that can meet citizens' basic needs during major disasters without compromising our local environment or health. These systems should be designed with the capacity to function independently of external aid or resources.

According to the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), cities that invest in disaster risk reduction measures can prevent significant losses both in terms of lives and infrastructure (UNDRR Report 2019). Moreover, a study published by the National Bureau of Economic Research indicates that increasing local self-sufficiency can reduce vulnerability to global supply chain disruptions (NBER Working Paper No. 27439).

By mandating these changes at a city level we are not only safeguarding our community against future crises but also taking an ethical stand against exploitative labor practices abroad.

Please sign this petition urging our city officials to prioritize local self-sufficiency through the development of emergency backup systems.

Thank you for your consideration.
