I have just found this image that was captured by Lisa in summer 2019. It brings back memories- It was 1 year since we got the farm- or should I say fields of grass- we had no infrastructure, no fencing, no water, no buildings, no polytunnel. This year was our first year growing flowers- ever, as you can see I had a baby on the hip, also a 3 year old and 6 year old pulling at my dress! I had no idea what I was doing, We had no money to fund the infrastructure, we have just done it bit by bit as time has passed and bits of money made. This summer we would collect water from the stream and the bottom of the farm and walk it up to the flower garden! Such a slog! Here I was, I was so naive, so carefree, people would ask us- where are you going to sell your flowers? - I had no clue, but I was full of dreams, so I followed my dream, I wanted to farm, I wanted to grow beautiful flowers, I wanted to surround myself with beauty, creating a magical world here on the farm. I wanted animals, a milk cow, Chickens, pigs, sheep, an orchard, vegetables, soft fruit - all of it. Well It happened and is still happening being refined all the time in ways we learn work. It wasn’t really the simple life I thought it would be and I do love the wild ride that it is, the lessons of life that come my way. I am so grateful, my life is so full, flowers, food, sunrises, animals, community, family laughter, candlelight, joy, sea swims, saunas, singing, just beauty. My commitment this year as we approach imbolc, as spring is approaching, seeds are going to be sown soon, the seed in my life I am sowing is to slow down in moments of life and really feel and see how beautiful this life is.

I had such beautiful morning here on the farm i wanted to write about it, it has been filled with lovely women and children, strolling the flower garden picking flowers- some for themselves, some for other special women in their lives. It just reminded me of one of the best bits of farming- the community that can be can come with it and the sense of joy and groundedness that comes with strolling through a field full of nature, full of beauty, the constant reminder of how much being in nature and being with nature fills our souls and grounds our feet. Helping our emotional and physical wellbeing. I guess these pick your own session are more than just come and pick some flowers, its about me offering you the time to come and be with nature and absorbing the offerings of the farm, the sounds, smells,I believe that just taking a moment to really breath and ground yourself here will do you the world of good. Its about getting to know each other, building community and connections because isn't that whats life about. Photography by Sharon Aston

Some beautiful photographs capturing the magical morning we had yesterday creating this half arch to decorate the sweet little church in St Buryan. After an early start, we drove through the mist down winding lanes with buckets full of homegrown flowers. With excitment and creativity, with swallows flying in and out of the church, with the little robin popping down to greet us from time to time, we worked together inspired by nature- the flowers themselves and created this. Thanks so much to Sharon Aston for your helping hands and beautiful photographs.

About us and our growing philosophy...
Rose Valley Farm Flowers started with a small but beautiful dream: to grow wonderful things by working in balance with nature, enriching the earth and to lay deeper roots for us as a family.
Growing flowers seemed like a natural choice. Something we could do on a relatively small scale and still create a sustainable livelihood.
In 2017, after looking for a long time, we purchased 10 acres of land in Cornwall, a wild, windy place by the sea and this is where our first small steps began.
In flowers, you have a product that is already beautiful and stunning, but as in all things, beauty may only be skin deep. Our growing philosophy means our flowers are not just beautiful to the eye.
Our philosophy
Small is beautiful
Despite the growing trend towards large scale industrialised agriculture, we think that small is beautiful, more sustainable and a better way to support balance between farming and the environment.
Growing simply, with love not chemicals
The vast majority of flowers produced today are no different to any other land-based product in the 21st Century: Produced in ways that are detrimental to the health of the planet and its population.
When we chose to grow flowers as environmentally sustainable as possible, we soon became aware that sadly we were part of a counter-culture, one opposed to factory farming, the abundant use of chemicals and fossil fuels. We are passionate about growing things simply, without an over reliance on fossil fuels, with love not chemicals.
Inspiring change
We’re determined to find a different, more sustainable way forward for our farm and to inspire others towards change and more ecological approaches to farming and growing. Perhaps even more importantly we are passing on what we learn about this approach to our children.
Growth
We believe our personal learning and growth is just as important as the growth of our business. Without the ability to learn personally and apply that learning to what we do on the farm, our business will not grow. We believe strongly that we can be highly productive without chemical inputs, by harnessing nature’s own resources to our advantage, sharing and learning with others, drawing on old farming traditions and building a community of like-minded people who share our passion and beliefs.
Love
Most of all we do this out of love, we honestly love what we do and we are sure you will feel and see this love and dedication in our flowers and the soil they grew in.
