In 1980, our parents escaped war in Laos and sought refuge in the United States with my oldest sister who was just a few months old and very little to their name. Their plans were uncertain but what was certain were the opportunities that lie ahead and the possibility of creating “home” in an unfamiliar place. Fast forward, two more daughters and 3 grandchildren later, our parents have done everyt

hing to instill the culture and traditions they remember from their home and our promise to them is to share what they’ve taught us with the community that help shape who we are today.

Come join us for Trucks for the Park!

Do you have your tickets yet? We’re a few days away from Trucks for the Park! Your own mini food truck rodeo, where every vendor has a little something for you… a LOT of little somethings! One ticket feeds 2-3 people and comes with 2 beers, lemonade, and tea! Not to mention 15+ savory trucks serving they’re best dishes and some sweet treats from our faves too!!! Plus the sun setting on Durham Central Park, a PLAYlist playlist setting the vibe, 👌 it’s a good time raising money for DCP!

Trucks for the Park is a special private, mini food truck rodeo that gives you access to easily sample the flavors of each of the truck’s rolling kitchens. This year, the participating trucks will prepare a sample of a special menu item they wish to share with you. Walk up to the truck with your ticket and pick up your food, no long lines! Vegetarian options will be available from most trucks. Along with the yummy menu items, each ticket comes with two drinks from Durham craft breweries and a cash bar. So, bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy this unique opportunity to enjoy delicious food truck cuisine - both savory and sweet - in one lovely evening in the park!

This event is part of the Parties for the Park fundraisers for Durham Central Park. Durham Central Park is a 5-acre city park that is managed, programmed and developed by Durham Central Park, Inc. DCP, Inc. receives no direct funding from the City of Durham, all of the funds raised to operate the park come from donations, grants, sponsorships and fundraisers like these. ‼️ANNOUNCEMENT‼️ We’re going to LAOS 🙏🏽🇱🇦!! When our parents came to the United States in 1980 they left behind everything they knew to create a better life for themselves and their future. We been so blessed to have the life that we have, thanks to their sacrifice. Over the years everyone (except Sun) has gone back to Laos separately or in groups but never altogether. It was always work schedules or life just getting in the way. Now, we finally have the privilege to travel all together to the homeland 🥹🥹🥹🥹. We are so excited so experience this opportunity together and we hope to make memories that will last a lifetime. That being said we will not be operating between the end of February to mid-March but hope to come back grounded and ready to share new dish ideas to bring to the truck! We are also on a mission to give back to our parent’s hometown in the countryside of Laos, in the Bolikhamsai Province. Nearly 23% of the total population of 7.2 million people in Laos are below the poverty line and Bolikhamsai remains one of the provinces highest poverty rates in the country. we’ve identified a local school in Pakkading (our moms village) who are in need of the following items: composite notebooks, paper, unsharpened pencils, socks, shoes, underwear, leisurely outfit sets *clothing should fit ages 5-13 - but honestly anything will help. If you’re interested in donating we will collect items Saturday, February 10th at the Lunar New Year celebration 11am-4pm if you’re not able to drop off we would be more than happy to pick up items. If you wish to give a monetary donation you can Venmo us at handle laolaofoodtruck. Thank you so much for your support over the years, even if you’re not able to contribute please make a plan to stop by Lunar New Year at Raleigh Iron Works this weekend to celebrate and support local Asian - owned businesses.
