"So I've been struggling a lot lately with recording mixes. On the one hand, this is due to the complete over stimulation by DJ and music content via social media, and on the other hand, because i have very high standards for myself and all the mixes i record. I often can't decide what I want to play. Since I listen to a very wide range of music, I also want to carry this further through mixes and gigs. I get bored with a lot of the current musical trends and often feel like playing a counterpoint to them. Most of my mixes have an arc of tension and don't just consist of one genre. it's the same in this mix for you. I felt like bringing in a spherical, atmospheric part, but at the same time integrating energetic and harsh sounds. Honestly, I believe that the mix can be heard in different situations. On the one hand it is quiet and can be listened to in everyday life, on the other hand it is also energetic and is certainly suitable as a preparation for nights full of loud electronic music :)"

I was delighted to be invited by Radio 80k to record a guest mix. For this occasion I unpacked my recently found trip hop, hip hop, electronica and R&B records. ZENA presents OLIV #14

When I was a child, my father showed me the music of Peaches. I didn’t understand the lyrics yet, but I sang along with my friends. It was only much later that I understood the music, the lyrics and the political content. Peaches was one of the first feminists I consciously noticed and admired. This year I went to a Peaches concert for the first time and have been listening to her music more regularly ever since.

For this radio show, I picked out a wide variety of tracks and tried to put them together in a musically coherent order to form a set. Because of the meaningful lyrics and the important cultural-political context, I also played excerpts from interviews with Peaches between the tracks. These excerpts are intended to introduce Peaches as a person a little better and also to clarify the context in which she allows music, performance and art to take place.

Activist and artist OLIV is one co-founder of the feminist ZENA collective and part of Breidenbach Label. With a wide spectrum of efforts to generate more spaces, conversations, and network opportunities for FLINTA* artists, OLIV is a music lover and explorer by heart. For some years OLIV has been twisting k***s and turning records – always varying between different genres like Experimental, Electroacoustic Music, Minimal, House, Tech, Breakbeat, Electro, Acid and Bass. She has been playing various clubs in Germany as well as London and Amsterdam. For some time, she has become increasingly involved with the interface of electronic dance music and electroacoustic music and the emergence of both genres.
