was once part of a historic 450 acre citrus grove dating back to the early 1920’s. 🌴

Today The Urban Grove continues to thrive as a small but intimate citrus grove & date palm oasis but it now opens its doors as an exclusive event space. ✨

It offers an atmosphere of “old world charm” with the original Mexican Saltillo tile and stone floors throughout the home, wood beamed ceilings and a huge beehive fireplace are a few of the elements that have been maintained to perfection while carefully preserving the original charm and details from a bygone era which create an authentic Southwest ambiance that is unmatched. 🏜️

The outdoor space has a sparkly blue pool and is surrounded by date palms strung with market lights, perfect for those warm Arizona nights.

Our Tips For Having a Wedding in Hot Weather 👇

Timing is Key

— Choose the Right Time of Day: Opt for a late afternoon or early evening ceremony when temperatures are cooler. This also provides an opportunity for beautiful sunset photos.

— Seasonal Considerations: If possible, choose a date during a cooler season or shoulder season when the temperatures might be more moderate.

Sun Protection

— Sunscreen: Provide sunscreen stations for guests, especially if your ceremony is outdoors and during peak sun hours.

— Shade and Umbrellas: Use umbrellas, canopies, or natural shade to protect guests from the sun. Consider providing parasols, fans, or even personalized sunglasses for guests.

Hydration and Refreshments

— Hydration Stations: Set up water stations with cold water, infused water, or other refreshing drinks. Offer plenty of non-alcoholic options to keep guests hydrated.

— Cold Treats: Offer cool treats like ice cream, popsicles, or chilled fruit to help guests stay cool.

Photography and Makeup

— Photography Timing: Plan for photo sessions during cooler parts of the day and ensure there’s shade for the couple and guests.

— Makeup: Use long-lasting, waterproof makeup products to prevent makeup from melting or smudging in the heat.

On this chilly February morning we woke to pouring rain and snow on the hills behind Tanque Verde Ranch. Hard to imagine now when it’s going to be 108 in Tucson today. We weren’t sure if the ceremony could even be held outdoors that day. But when I delivered Mikayla’s bouquet to her room she was in great spirits. Excited to marry her best friend no matter the weather. Luckily the clouds broke just in time to lighten the rain and snow and send sun beams down on their late afternoon ceremony ☀️ Making for a beautiful and emotional union of two families.

After the romantic vows were exchanged in the historic the newlyweds led their guests to a sumptuous feast surrounded by saguaro cacti and mesquite trees. After the meal, guests swayed to the rhythm of mariachi melodies under string lights and a canopy of stars ✨

Tips from a Florist: Part 3 ✨

You probably know that you need bouquets and centerpieces, but there are other wedding flower arrangements to consider too.
Things like boutonnieres, ceremony backdrop designs, aisle markers, cocktail hour decor, cake flowers, corsages for the moms, crowns for flowers girls, petals to toss and a special design for the sweetheart table are just a few examples of additional flowers you might need.

Start by thinking about your wedding location and what areas will you spend the most time in, take the most photos in and want to highlight the most. Those areas you will want to consider adding florals too.

The list of arrangements can impact your overall decor and budget, so work with your florist to determine exactly what's essential for your special day and what you might be able to skip.

One way you can make sure you're covering all your bases—without breaking the bank—is to recycle your wedding flowers when possible throughout the day. Use ceremony designs around your sweetheart table or place your bridesmaid bouquets as accent arrangements on the gift and dessert tables. If you want even more ideas, talk to your florist about how you can reuse arrangements to get the most bang for your buck.

This will be the first in our series of six posts with ‘tips from a florist’ on how to decide on your floral decor, prepare for your first consultation with your florist and get the most out of your wedding flowers!

#1 Pinpoint your wedding flower vision through inspiration. (Note; Pinterest is your friend!)

Take some time to figure out what you like —are you into classic elegant flower arrangements with neutral colors, a bold dark and moody look or are you more of a vibrant bright color palette type of person?

Do you like lots of greenery, or none at all? Would you prefer dried elements like grasses or preserved pieces (like in this photo!)

When in doubt, remember that images are way more telling than words when choosing wedding flowers. Before the consultation, spend a few minutes organizing your inspo pics, or even better, create a Pinterest board. Then send your florist your wedding decor inspiration boards, swatches of what your wedding party will be wearing and examples of other flower arrangements you like that you’ve seen on websites or Instagram! This will all make the design process come together perfectly ✨ And you’ll be one step closer to the wedding of your dreams!
