I trusted her. Trusted and believed every word she told me. I looked up to her and loved her very much. This was my mum.
She always used to tell me to eat almonds and that I will pass my exams. When I was around 7yrs old, I did exactly that. Took almonds in my pocket and when an answer didn’t come for the exam I ate an almond. I waited ….. the answer didn’t come. I failed that exam. When my dad questioned me about my results I told him the above. He said that’s the best excuse he has ever heard.
You see…. It wasn’t an excuse. I believed every word she said. If only I could have one more day with her…. I would tell her to eat almonds as it’s good for memory.
However my son had his A level further maths exams few weeks ago and he went into slight panic the day before. I handed him some almonds and told him …. Don’t worry eat almonds and you will pass your exams. He looked at me, laughed, panic over and he said … it doesn’t work like that.

I dedicate todays post to my in laws. I loved them. When they came to our wedding 21 years ago, it was a reunion for them. At my wedding they met their 3 daughter and grand children after 17 years.
My mother in law taught me how to cook. I have written all her recipes in a book which I will pass onto my kids. She couldn’t speak English so I had to learn Tamil. She taught me how to speak Tamil too. Sadly she is no more. If I could turn back time, I would love to have the opportunity to do more for her.
My father in law , I have so many lovely memories with him. He taught me how to make hair gajras. He was so happy when we had our first son. The last time I went to Srilanka, when I bid him farewell we both hugged and cried so much. We both knew that it was our final goodbye. As after that, 3 weeks later he passed away.
A few weeks ago, at the temple I saw someone exactly like him. The same hair, the same shoulders and the blue checkered shirt he used to wear. And then he wasn’t there anymore. I know they both shining over us. And one day we will meet again.

The reason behind my business name:
It’s quite simple to be honest - long after the event is over, these flowers make a lovely keepsake. A lovely memory too. My very first customer still has her bouquet on display in a vase. The artificial flower hair gajras that I have sold can be used again and again too. So how do you feel using artificial flowers for your occasions?
