💜 Tonight I was so honored to accept my invitation as a Certified Domestic Violence Speaker’s Bureau (DVSB) Speaker to attend The 18th Annual Domestic Violence Memorial Tree Lighting and Ceremony at The Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy. The purpose of this event is to honor and remember lives ended too soon because of domestic violence, focusing on those who have lost their lives to domestic violence in North Carolina and in Mecklenburg County over the past year.
I was also chosen to hang the second purple awareness ribbon on the tree. When I was finished- I looked at the tree while listening intently to countless names with ages being called- real people who had real lives. I watched several others after me hang ribbons to honor them. The youngest of whom was 8 months old 💔
Reflecting on my own life- I saw God’s glory in my life from the perspective of a mother and a child, both being a survivor and witness of domestic violence and abuse. I couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with gratitude and compassion. I praised God that I wasn’t hanging a ribbon for my mother 🙌🏽
My children are also child witnesses and secondary survivors of domestic violence and abuse. By God’s grace, they weren’t hanging a ribbon for me either 🙌🏽
🤎 Instead, my daughter was beside me- as my children usually always are when I’m serving. And I thank her for taking these pictures to commemorate these moments.
🙏🏽 I am so grateful for another opportunity to do what I love and sow into Soul Remodeling™️ by Mrs. Monique Harris through community service initiatives which also directly open more doors to healing for child witnesses/survivors of abuse.
