Wedding & event planning is not for the weak, but I love it too much to ever walk away. I stay around because I love my couples and their families, they make this job worth all the blood, sweat, and tears (and yes, I see & experience them all). But like everyone, I need community and for the past 6.5 years AWPA has been there for me. The Associated Wedding Planners of Austin has been the lifeline to get me through COVID and through the incredibly rapid fire pace that has followed. This community of fellow wedding planners is everything I never thought I needed, and I can say with 100% certainty that putting community over competition is how we should all live. We celebrated the holidays together earlier this week and it was just what my soul needed. I hope everyone has a chance to find a bit of time for themselves in the tail end of this holiday season because you are worth it! Find your community and treasure them ❤️ Bonus points if your community can pull it together to take beautiful pictures but also can be goofy and have fun between them!!

Today Melanie was able to celebrate her cousin’s wedding day in Indiana with her beautiful little girl Amelia. It’s great to enjoy an actual fall and be a wedding guest, but don’t worry, we are back to coordinating Austin weddings next weekend!!

We tell all our couples during planning to figure out which elements of the day we have some flexibility on and which are non-negotiable. Some want a live band, some want flowers everywhere, some want a foodie worthy meal, but some also want very particular details to not fall to the wayside. Jenna and Matt were one of those couples that just wanted the guests to have a great time and for their families to join together, but also wanted their linens to be perfectly steamed to look flawless! That is often an area that is difficult to address on wedding day due to a few logistic issues, but we made sure those linens looked their best.Not only did we arrange for them to be delivered a day early so we could bring in our personal iron and iron each one by hand after their rehearsal, but we made sure practiced ahead of time. With their linens being dupioni silk we knew steaming them could be tricky. So we picked one up months before the event and at home tested out a steamer, a steam iron, and a dry iron to see which worked best and if any left a water stain. Without that extra step their vision would not have come together and we just can not allow that! Going that extra mile is just one of the many things we do to ensure our couples have the best wedding weekend possible!
