Bowl of American-grown garden roses, she's heavier than she looks. 😅 Designed directly into water, it is possible to get traditional shapes without foam!

These butterfly ranunculus needed a little extra time to open so I brought them from the studio into my kitchen for some extra sunshine and love -- and to keep an eye on them! Little dancing divas. 😍

5 years of Rose and Laurel today. Grateful to all my clients, to the vendors who are now friends, the growers and wholesalers, and for all of you for following along. What started as modest business has become a creative force greater than I could have ever hoped or prayed for. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Sweet great-grandma Rose. She made the trip all the way to Minnesota for this special day. I'll admit, I teared up when Mara told me Rose was coming, I even snuck an extra rose in her corsage. So happy to have shared in this moment. Sure, you could say, it's just a corsage. But it was for Rose. And Mara. That's why it's important.

For this colorway, I wanted to create a frothy seaside-inspired meadow that felt like the cliffs of Avonlea. Maybe it's fanciful to think flowers could conjure up images of Anne standing on the cliffside, but that's what art does. It makes us feel things, sometimes returning us to moments we've visited before.

One of the rare moments I used toffee roses, and absolutely loved it. Typically I lean towards hybrid tea roses, or spray roses, both of which have smaller blooms, and better balance a wedding gown (just this designers opinion). But here, the wild fall foliage and the massive amounts of tulle in this stunning Galia Lahav gown, called for a blooms that had a bit more going on. And my did she deliver.

Today, there is a massive pressure on small business owners to hustle, grow, achieve. What if we started thinking about our businesses differently? What if our goals are smaller? What if we have more margin for rest? What would it look like if we stopped looking left and right, and instead looked ahead and said, "I think I may have already made it." What if each client was an opportunity to serve? Each project an opportunity for something more? And what if we said, maybe I already have enough?

Thank you, for every follow, every heart, every save, and for those who I can count as past or future clients. Each passing year I have been able to refine the what and the why behind what I do. The nameless drive that fuels me slowly comes into focus, and I am left with gratitude for each and every one of you. Without you, this little endeavor would still just be an idea. So, on this Small Business Saturday, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. ~Sarah

Black and white. It's one of those things that makes my heart skip a beat. Colors and noise fade away and we're left looking at a moment, somehow connected to each other's humanity.

Seasonal. Now is the time for dried flowers, lovingly saved from the winters frost. Now is not the time for roses and peonies, their moments will come next year. For now, there is beauty in the garden, put to sleep.

I wish I could say that this fall I'll be working on lots of new things to share. But I'll be honest, the last few years have left me burnt out in more ways than one, and reeling with personal loss, that, in the wake of so many happy events I get to be a part of, needs time to process and heal. So instead of hustling behind the scenes, I'll be taking this winter season to rest and reflect, and occasionally share some of those thoughts with you all.

Setting. Just like how water flows differently depending on what is underneath it, floral design is fluid, and moves based on what the underlying structure is. For us, that structure is the setting. It informs the type of flowers and foliage that are native to the area. It informs what colorways will best compliment or contrast the surroundings. And it ultimately determines the flow of your floral design.

Film. It cannot be replicated. It makes you FEEL something: beauty, nostalgia, longing, quiet. It's your favorite book on a rainy day. It's the look from your spouse that makes you weak in the knees. It's the moment holding a flower that you realize what a miracle life is.Photo

Clematis and blueberries for a casual tablescape. This is an editorial look, meant to be fanciful and not at all practical. To translate this to a dinner party look, I would place candles in hurricanes, and blueberries in complimenting dishes throughout the table. Your menu could have a blueberry compote for your main, or finish with a blueberry galette to marry the theme to your meal.
