We are a little over a week away before we move across the country & we are more than ready to make it happen! What I am NOT looking forward to is 35-40 hours of driving... ALONE! โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

Ben and I are going to use our walkie talkies to talk to each other and play some games along the way. We also plan to stop & take a picture at each state welcome sign with the pups! I thought that would be a cute memory to have & share with friends & family. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

Yup. I said it! Now I know I encourage authentic moments, BUT I also don't want anyone to get dropped on their wedding day. I always encourage couples to practice "the dip" if they are planning to do one. It may seem like a bit much, but ever heard of a lil phrase that goes something like "practice makes perfect?" Have you been debating how to set your guest tables? Linens, chargers, plates, flatware, glassware, napkins, table numbers, florals and/or other centerpieces are the usuals that go on a table. Of course there can always be more like place cards and individual favors maybe some candles. Or there can be less. How are you? I'm asking both engaged couples and vendors! It's been an INSANE season. I'll go first. I am EXHAUSTED. Events by Evelyn has helped with 14 weddings just in October alone. We've either assisted other planner friends for day of, officiated and/or coordinated 14 weddings. Each of them has been every bit worthwhile, don't get me wrong, but as a one woman show, I would be lying if I said I wasn't ready for this season to wrap. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

I don't have any witty puns or goofy wedding tips for you today. My heart told me to speak to y'all about this incredible wedding vendor community instead. If you're somehow unaware, so much of CA is on fire right now. Hundreds of firefighters are working their asses off night and day to protect structures, homes & lives. I am so grateful to them & their families. It cannot be easy knowing the danger they put themselves in to protect their communities. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

Last week I was fortunate enough to work with some of the most talented, & kind vendors in the wedding community. We had planned a styled photo shoot to bring us together as creatives. A couple hours before the shoot, I got a call from our florist, Cindy with . I could hear the panic, & fear in her voice as she told me she was rushing to get to her kids & that they were being evacuated. My heart sank, but for all the wrong reasons.โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
Selfishly, I cried. I cried because I knew I'd have to postpone, because florals are such a critical element to bring the vision we had to life. As I sat on the side of the road, truck fully loaded, calling every vendor letting them know we may have to postpone, Cindy called back. "No, don't you dare postpone, I've got the florals & we are doing this!"โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
How in the world was it that I, who was at risk of losing nothing, was consoled by a woman who was at risk of losing everything? Cindy arrived on site with not only the stunning blooms in this photo, but a beaming smile. Her love for her craft is unparalleled.โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
Cindy & her family lost their home last week, yet she continues to show up for her couples with nothing but grace and faith. She has remained focused on what she has to thankful for in spite of loss. Thank you Cindy for reminding me of what truly matters in this life; our families and healthy relationships.

I recently had a consult with a bride who said a timeline wouldn't be necessary for her wedding day. When I asked her to elaborate on why she said "๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐
๐๐'๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐

Her answer made perfect sense to me and it was an awesome educational moment that I wanted to pass along to each of you! You see having a timeline DOES insure you get to have the laid back vibe. When you book a planner/coordinator, you're not getting a half a page, BS pinterest template order of events sheet. You are getting about a 6 page document with EVERY. LITTLE. DETAIL. outlined for your entire vendor team. Each vendor you've hand selected has a primary role and responsibility. Your timeline outlines all of that as well as includes key contact information all in one location. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

So much of a wedding is dependent on the timing of the events. For example, the ceremony end time gives the caterer a time to go off of for when to have your appetizers warm and ready for cocktail hour. Without a timeline, what should be a blissful wedding can easily turn into a stressful one! โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

I myself provide two timelines. One for vendors with every nitty gritty detail, and then one for the wedding party. Your bridesmaids don't really need to know when the DJ is arriving for sound check, but they do need to know what time to lineup for grand entrance by. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

Ultimately I hope your takeaway from this is that a wedding timeline isn't meant to take away from the laid back nature of your wedding day. In fact quite the opposite. You know, I often forget that I am privileged to have an abundance of wedding knowledge. The other day in a meeting with a client I had mentioned our final count of vendors for the day of and advised I would inform the caterer to plan appropriate for the vendor meals. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
The couple had no idea what I was referring to and it got me thinking, is this something that a lot of people don't know about? โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
If you're newly engaged or in the process of planning your wedding here I am here to tell you that you should plan to feed your day of vendors. Most of us have it in our contracts (I learned the hard way) to require a meal for ourselves and our team. Side bar, this is also a good reminder to really read your contracts before signing!โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
You may be wondering, why is this a requirement? Well, because we are human beings working 10+ hrs and need to fuel our bodies. Sure we pack protein bars, and have some snacks on hand, but that's not enough nourishment for the long hours our bodies work through on wedding days. Know that for most vendors, if a meal is not provided, then we will need to leave to go get food which, TRUST ME, is not what you want to happen.โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

You've seen the quotes, and you've likely heard your favorite vendors talk about this. Weddings are making a comeback in a BIG way. You may be wondering, ๐ฐ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐๐จ๐๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ง ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ, ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฐ๐๐๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ฌ?โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
It means that time is even more valuable than ever. If you have your eye on a certain vendor(s), reach out ASAP! Dates are booking up super quickly. I personally am completely booked for 2021 and certain months in 2022 are also 100% booked. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
In that same breathe I should also say to please give vendors grace when it comes to response times. Candidly, I received 132 emails between Friday and this morning...๐ Now those aren't all new inquires, but they do require responses and I am just one person. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
Many of us are not only the vendor providing you a wedding service, but we are also the content creators, social media managers, accounting team, marketing team, and so much more for our businesses. So while I say, get those inquiries in, I also want to give you realistic expectations. It may take a bit longer than the 24 hrs that most of us industry pros try so hard to stick to on response times. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

Backyard Weddings MYTHS // There are so many of them, but today I am focused on the one that implies backyard weddings are "cheaper" than hosting at a wedding venueโฌ๏ธ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

If you happened to be someone who thinks planning a backyard wedding will solve all your budget problems, unfortunately I am may just shatter your whole game plan with this post ๐งจ Now, I have done my fair share of backyard weddings & they are lovely, but engaged couples, you should be well informed before you make the decision to host one!โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

The biggest thing people do not realize when considering a backyard wedding is all the outsourcing you'll need to do. Without a venue, you have to bring in EVERYTHING, & I mean EVERYTHING. To name a few BIG ticket items...โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

๐ณ Bathrooms (unless you're cool with 120+ people roaming in and out of your home & personal bathrooms)โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐ณ Protection from the elements, so a tent if it's going to rain or be too hot & heaters if it's going to get cold. Or if your backyard space can't support a tent, you'll need umbrellas for shade coverage.โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐ณ Lighting - very often forgotten, but most backyards are not "event ready" & the Costco string lights are a good idea in theory, but who is putting them up? Where is the main power source for them? โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐ณ A dance floor - unless you happen to have a perfectly even, flat surface that you don't minds guests trampling on all nightโ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐ณ Rentals like tables & chairs which many venues include in package rates. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ

To top it all off, hiring & paying for enough staff to assist with setting up all those items. It adds up quick. So when you're touring different venues & you are initially "sticker shocked" at the package prices, ask for an itemized statement of what's all included & consider the convenience values of what is offered. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
