Let’s talk repurposing ♻️
Not every florist does it and there are reasons why. Some do it and charge a repurposing fee, some build the fee into the cost of the piece. When you’re chatting with potential wedding florists, be sure to ask their stance on this offering. Here’s our take-
We’re proud of every piece that leaves our studio. We would LOVE you to enjoy each piece for as long as possible. “Possible” depends on construction, ingredients, weather, labor, and event flow. Experience has taught us what works & when it works.
For example, these aisle pieces were successfully repurposed as tent entrance and head table decor. This repurposing moment worked because:
1. The construction was 360 degrees and intended to be viewed from above in both locations
2. The ingredients were heat tolerant and we replaced spent blooms with reserved blooms
3. Although hot, the weather cooperated
4. We were able to cart the pieces in one trip from the ceremony site to the reception site using two carts and four staff members.
5. The repurposing took place during cocktail hour, out of view of the guests and after the photographer had taken ceremony shots.
Do you need to consider these elements when dreaming up your wedding florals? Nope, that’s what we are here for. If we know something will work, we will suggest it to you during the planning process. It brings us joy to see our pieces live a longer life!
What are some pieces that just don’t work when repurposed? For us, it’s wedding party bouquets, arbor decor, pieces that will be viewed from a different perspective, and pieces experienced during cocktail hour 🤮 Every florist is different and some may be more willing to wing it, with varying results 🤷🏻♀️ Be sure to ask your florist what their experience level is with repurposing and if they actually like to do it.
The best answer is, they do it all the time bc it aligns with their values and design style, they love to do it when it works, and they refuse to do it when it won’t work.
