Tis’ the season of the most fleeting flowers and the best w**ds. We are lucky in western NY to have fields, barns, silos, and driveways chock full of goodies. I used to think I could only design with something I worked really hard to grow, as if I could do it better. And then I realized that I was missing out on so many treasures and that I wasn’t cheating by using what was already existing in nature. To this day, nothing gives my designs dance better than some dancing w**d grass. Seen in this bouquet are some oats that were grown by… the birds? 🐦‍⬛

We are in full swing planting mode this week and next week until wedding season kicks off! A theme that I’m loving? Embracing color & wildflower vibes. It’s like I’ve waited 10 years for this to come to and it’s music to my ears. Can’t wait to show you all another year of beautiful flowers!

I grew Dahlias my very first year of farming in 2015. They were so fancy next to all the rows of zinnias (since I killed mostly everything else). I think I went around that Fall saying “look what I did!!” (As if I had birthed these dahlias). They gave me so much confidence and made me curious as to why I never would see Dahlias in the grocery store or in any arrangement. The Dahlia world has grown in the past 9 years and boy have we come a long way. I love that Dahlias have become a household flower that you likely know. Growing them breeds confidence, curiosity, creativity, and inner joy. The plethora of varieties keeps it interesting and ever evolving. I’m thankful for the many dahlia champions that have kept the interest growing because I think the world needs them and the delight they bring. Photos are from a look back on my early years with dahlias.
