Snow joke about it, it's our December Pet of the Month Savitri! 🐶 Savitri, or Savvy for short, is a 4 year old rescue Great Pyrenees and Kuvasz mix from the SPCA. How do you know which Christmas tree to get? 🎄

There are so many cut Christmas trees to choose from in a range of varieties, it can be tough to choose the right one for you. Don't worry, we're here to help! When it comes to picking a healthy tree that will last through the holidays, look for one that doesn't drop any needles when you gently pull on a branch or pick it up and gently drop it truck-down onto the ground. Also look for signs of browning and check for broken branches that may need to be removed before you get it home. Now when it comes to variety, that's where personal preference comes in! Each type has its own shape, smell, branch spacing, and needle texture. While we often think of Christmas trees as being Pines, its actually the Fir trees that are the most popular. Not that that narrows it down any - there are multiple different types of Fir with unique traits to choose from too! Keep your cut greens looking their best all holiday season! 🎄

Cut greens are a beautiful, aromatic sign of the season, but with our harsh High Desert climate they can often dry out or be damaged before the holidays arrive. Luckily there are a few easy things you can do to keep them looking great all month! First off, be mindful of where you place your cut greens. Cut greens that are placed in direct sunlight or near a heat source, fan, or drafty part of your home will dry out quicker than those kept in shade or somewhere still. While sun and heat can't always be avoided, when you have the option opt for those cooler spots to set your cut greens. Conversely though, extreme cold can also damage your cut greens. Consider covering your outdoor greens at night to keep them from freezing, which will give you extra time with these seasonal beauties. Finally, you'll want to mist your cut greens to give them just enough moisture to keep from drying out without letting them rot or mold. The best way to do this is to take a spray bottle, set it to mist, and go over your cut greens every other day with fresh water. If you have a lot of cut greens, especially outside in the cold, this can be a bit tedious, so a quick gentle spritz with the hose works just as well! Be sure to water during the peak of the day so there's plenty of time for the water to soak in before it freezes overnight. With these easy care tips, your cut greens will last for weeks so they can still make their best impression for the holidays! 💚
