Wising everyone a blessed solstice tonight ✨. This always feels like the last day of the year to me, with days getting longer and light starting to return, slowly, tomorrow. Wishing you and yours peace, sweetness, beauty, rest and love as we enter this next cycle. 💫

There are so many beautiful beautiful BEAUTIFUL images from this summer wedding at to share, but this photo of Qi’s bouquet is one of my favorites. Classic and elegant, but not fussy at all, filled with flowers from the garden plus a few extra special garden roses!
Also, a reminder for those looking for a last minute holiday gift for a flower lover that our online class is open for registration, and accessible from anywhere around the world! 🌎 To sign someone up, you need to enter their email address when you pay for the class, which will trigger an email sent to that person notifying them of their enrollment so they can sign in and take the class! But if you’d like to keep the gift a secret from the person you’re giving it to until a specific day (Christmas, etc), send me an email- I have a way of registering people in secret (hee hee) so they won’t know until you want them to know 😁.
Hope you are all finding some quiet time in this season which can also be so busy. It is a beautiful time of year, and also can be such a hard time of year. Thinking about that complexity a lot right now, both of these realities coexisting. Sending warmth and light to you all in these darkest days of the year, as we approach the winter solstice ✨

And the giveaway winners are... and !! I’ll be sending you a DM to get you registered for the class!!! To everyone who has already purchased the class, and to everyone who commented, shared and encouraged both the announcement of the class and the creation of the class, THANK YOU SO MUCH. Your support and encouragement is truly felt and appreciated. It takes a lot of work and a leap of faith to try something new and get it off the ground, and every single vote of confidence has meant so much. It lands straight in my heart, and on a very practical level supports my family 💛.

The class is now ready and available to all, and I hope you’ll consider signing up if this offering calls to you! Arranging flowers (esp. those from the garden!) is a true passion of mine. In Arranging Garden Flowers, I hope to share the joy of connecting with the seasons through flowers, and give you lots of useful information to help you gain skills and confidence in creating your own beautiful floral designs.

Not sure if I have shared this here, but the first arrangements I ever made were from my days working as a gardener- I would use whatever materials I had to cull while doing garden maintenance- broken branches, flowers knocked down by a storm... these were the first materials I worked with. Over time I found ways to hone the process of arranging, and distilled it into a method that I share with students in my in-person workshops, and now in this new video class too!

The class is geared towards beginning/intermediate level designers (advanced designers, I will eventually have something for you too!). I wanted to make this class approachable, giving a good base for you to spring from! You don't need any floral experience to benefit from this class, and it will give you a method of design to help anchor you inside your own creative process with flowers- which I hope will continue to unfold for you over time.

I hope to "see" some of you there! Please feel free to comment with any questions you have about the class. And THANK YOU again to everyone for showing such support and excitement for this new endeavor!

Getting ready for the GROW | HARVEST | DESIGN workshop this weekend + reflecting on the many stages the garden has gone through this year. This bouquet was created in late June, when the foxglove were almost as tall as me, and the cistus + first seeding of agrostemma were all blooming. Now the foxglove bed looks pretty sad- the plants are tired and no longer in flower, but the varieties I planted seem to have perennialized, so I have not replanted the bed with a new crop. Now there are marigolds, hydrangea, cosmos, phlox, clematis, dahlias, nicotiana… all in parts of the garden that were completely dormant when the foxglove were having their moment! The garden is always changing- and there are always areas that look so full and abundant and healthy, and always areas that look a little sad and tired.
In prepping for this workshop (any workshop really) there is always a moment where I panic and feel like things are not going to be good enough/pretty enough/presentable enough. I am just a normal person trying to juggle all the many things life is constantly bringing up, and something is always getting neglected, or not going the way I expected, or my kid throws a frisbee or a rock into the garden and knocks down something that was beautiful, or I forget to water a tray of seedlings for a day and they all die, or a new insect appears and starts eating right through the flower buds (as is currently happening with the nicotiana 😤)… the point is, it is FAR from perfect around here. And in more public-facing moments this often creates anxiety in me about how everything will be perceived.
BUT- I am taking myself down from this place of judgment, reminding myself that perfection is not the goal at all. Space for all of our humanness, kindness, genuine connection, learning, creativity, healthy habitat, healthy soil, inspiration, connection to the plants and each other- these are (some) of the actual goals.
So if you need it, maybe this can be your reminder too- that perfection is not required. And in the space that opens in the absence of its pursuit are so many of the things that make life worth living.

For those who have been asking… Our next workshop is coming up on September 18th!! GROW | HARVEST | DESIGN is a full day workshop at the Botanique studio and cutting garden with a multi-focus on growing and arranging flowers. This is arguably my favorite workshop of the year, because it is the one time we open up our cutting garden for students to harvest from- and there is nothing that people seem to love more than being set free in the garden, invited to harvest whichever flowers are calling to them!

This workshop starts with a garden tour, where I will share thoughts, considerations, tools, and techniques for growing flowers, with lots of time for questions. We use organic and regenerative methods to grow flowers in this garden, so we will talk a lot about building soil health, understanding the garden as an ecosystem, making sure we’re putting in as much as we’re taking out, and lots more. We then learn how to harvest flowers both to keep the plants healthy and blooming throughout the season, and also to achieve maximum vase life for any flowers we cut. After lunch, we’ll go into the studio for a design lesson where I will share my method for creating a beautiful, seasonal arrangement, and each participant will make their own arrangement to take home with flowers harvested from the garden!

This workshop is open to all, and geared towards beginners/intermediate level growers and/or designers, and anyone who is curious about growing and arranging flowers!

This workshop will mostly take place outside, but there is both indoor and outdoor (under a canopy) workspace for the design portion to accommodate a range of comfort levels regarding Covid.

There is one BIPOC scholarship available!

Registration and lots more details on the workshop and scholarship are available at the link in my bio! Hope to see you there!!!

Some June garden beauty✨. June is the month of roses, also the month of rainstorms. When it rains so heavily like it has been this year, harvesting roses is tricky- their petals can get really damaged by rain, and with enough rain, sometimes the flower heads even start to mold on the plants (or after you cut them if they don’t get a chance to fully dry out)! I try to harvest them when it’s as dry as possible, and then let them hydrate in a bucket or vase with good air circulation- letting each bloom fully dry before arranging. You want to make sure there’s no water trapped in between their petals, because once you get them in a vase with a bunch of other flowers that water has a harder time evaporating, which again can make them mold.

In this arrangement: ‘Distant Drums’ and ‘Pillow Fight’ roses, foxglove, Argentinian forget-me-not, cistus, and viburnum foliage, all from the Botanique Cutting Garden.
